Fruit Tree tile spacing?
Wikie says clear 3x3 clear space, and game says like 8 free tile space. So bit confused on how close you can plant them.

Thanks, I truly enjoy the game. It's magnificently refreshing. Can't remember having this much fun since I played Harvest Moon 64. :stardrop:

Has anyone noticed regular sap trees not growing if you space them too close? I did what other people suggested,
xxxxx
xoxox
xxxxx
However, after 10 days, I noticed half of the trees are still in early stages of and some are still seeds. Are they suppose to grow at different rates or all grow like normal crops? Nothing is blocking them, no grass no tilled dirt no rocks or limbs.
My plan was to checkboard them like so, however it seems like they are being hindered i'm in spring of 2nd year.

I have three rows of trees. One pine, one oak, and one maple; each spaced one apart. It took some time but they're all fully grown now. :)

The growth of wild trees is pretty random. Just wait it out and they'll eventually grow as long as they are 1 tile away from another tree.

Can you put pathways in for x?

@anarchyblues, that helps for general layout but since we can't grow fruit trees in the green house without a mod, that will be slightly misleading.

The 3x3 and the 8-tile space refer to the same thing. It's a different description of the same condition.

xxx
x0x
xxx

It's 3x3, and the x represents 8 tiles around the center tile that should be free. Once the fruit tree is fully grown, you can put pathways around it, but not while it is growing.

The x tiles should not intersect with each other. Each tree needs its own 8 tiles of free space. So like you said, you are growing them close together. To get them all to grow, your layout should be like this:

xxxxxx
xoxxox
xxxxxx

Now from what I have seen, that just means they will not grow at the same rate. But once one of them is mature, it no longer needs its 8 tiles to be free. That means the second nearby tree, will now count those 8 tiles as being free tiles. In other words, you can plant them close like that and they will eventually mature, but not at the same rate.
