Missing Apple and Pomegranate trees.

I planted a apple and pomegranate trees, back in the late spring, and when I woke up on the 4th of Summer year 1 they are gone. Has anyone experienced this and is there a way to get them back, like an old save file or something?

The only time my fruit trees ever disappeared was when I planted one of them next to the very edge of the farm -- it appeared as a stump when it grew.

Were the 8 tiles surrounding your saplings totally free and untilled?

And did you have a thunderstorm during one of the days?

I had this happen too, and just noticed it. I planted an apple and pomegranate tree at the beginning of Summer (Y2), and now on the last day of Summer i noticed one of them has completely disappeared. It definitely had the proper free space surrounding it too. This is pretty irritating because now I'll have to wait a whole additional year to grow another one. Anyone else run into this problem before?

They had the proper space and were in the middle of my farm.
