try fast tapping. dont hold or just stop to raise or lower, do fast tapping and slow it a tad to move it down. More control

Ease up on the mouse button. Try rapid-fire clicks rather than holding the button down (every fraction of a second the left mouse button is held down adds to your momentum, which means even after you let go, if you have a lot built up ... it's going to be hard to regain control).

So, click click click rather than hold and press. If your bar is escaping from your control on a 'normal' fish (not a super rare or hard one, which you legitimately need to get your skill level up for), that means that you're being too aggressive on the mouse. Slow and steady with it.

Ok I will give it a go, does anyone one know of a good location for a novice fisher.

Every location has easy and hard fish, so just fish anywhere. Or mod the game. That works too.

You should try the forest pond, I think that there are carps and smallmouth bass which are easy.
Beware of rainy days, because then you can catch a catfish.

Practice and level up the fishing skill. That's make a world of difference.
And of course, buy the new rods when possible. You gonna get a mail when they are on sale.
With the better rod you can use tackles which can make fishing easier.

For the first few levels, you will want to throw away your rod. I actually put mine away until the end of year two, when I had my farm running itself and felt less pressure from all of the other parts of Pelcian Town calling my attention. When fishing is introduced, most of us are still in that frantic so-many-things-to-do-and-see mode. :steammocking:

Remember, even catching seaweed, algae, trash is also helping you level, albeit slowly. It becomes much easier when you can buy the fiberglass rod from Willy and equip it with bait at level 3 or 4 and silly easy when you can later buy the iridium one. I think it took me around 10 fish to hit level 3 or so, if that helps: I also only caught some of the early ones by letting my fishing bar sit at the bottom out of complete exasperation.

I found that the pond/lake near Marnie is generally convenient and easier, but easy fish are found in the ocean also. Just try to avoid the Legendary fish spots (available on the wiki or guides) so you avoid wasting casts/time.

In regards to fishing spots, aside from the pond someone already mention, I recommend the mine lake. There are some "normal difficulty" fish there, but there is also carp, and carp is arguably the easiest fish to catch in the game. Sometimes they barely move around at all.

I gave up on fishing (motor dysfunction in my hands causes involuntary spastic clicking at times) and installed an easy fishing mod.

How to: Fishing

1. Get a Gamepad (xbox360 is the best)
2. Rly get a Gamepad
3. Choose a place you want to catch fish of your choice
4. Try
5. Try more
6. Don't get frustrated stay focused
7. Day is over "ah my fishing skill went up!"
8. Redo 4, 5 and 6 a couple of times
9. same as 7
10. "Wow fishing got much easyier now!"

congrats you learned how to catch fish in this game by increasing your skill level and learn how to press 1 button and time it with the fish to keep it in the green bar :brownchicken:

P.S. the game is not like "i can catch every fish with the first try" you can catch some strong fish later because you need a bigger green bar (gets bigger when your skill lv goes up)

What if the game controller is sensitive itself? As in, not broken in?
