This. I mean, were you expecting some kind of killer strategy or something? You can afford to let a couple of the fish get away and still win, as I've won with as few as five fish... but once you get pretty good at the game, it's not difficult to catch at least 7, depending on how fast they bite.

I usually just tap to launch the line, as the distance doesn't matter here, so it helps to just be as quick about it as you can.

I haven't got that far yet to reach this featival but I would think having bait would help make the fish bite faster but only if you got a fiberglass rod or better. See if this help your odds.

Can't open your inventory during festivals, and this particular festival you must use the provided bamboo pole so it's fair for everyone.

Its really easy to win it... I think I end up catching 6-7 fish everytime it comes around they are all really easy fish to catch.... oha dn to teh person saying stuff about using bait... they give you a rod to use during teh contest no bait allowed...its really not that hard though I think you win if you catch 5 fish or more....

Really it's easy to win assuming you were actually fishing in the game prior to the event, which you got like three and a half seasons to do. And seeing as how you got a lot of downtime waiting for your crops to grow, one of the things you SHOULD be doing from early game to make money is fishing.
