how do I get chickens for my coop.
I thought I'd need to go to the ranch but they are never there.

Show up at 9:00 AM when it is not Tuesday. The ranch south of your farm. Can purchase animals when Marnie is present.

Yes, Marnie can be very annoying to find. Just camping at the door until they open in the morning would be your best bet.

she's here but I can't buy anythign still and all she does is leave.

Are you trying to talk with the character or activating the counter in front of them? With all shopkeepers in the game, talking to them behind the counter won't open the shopping screen.

Edit: To clarify, to purchase animals from Marnie you'll need to speak to her while she is behind the counter. It won't work while she is roaming around her house, which she annoyingly does during working hours.

You must interact with the counter when Marnie is standing behind it like a cashier.

That little girl is Jas, not Marnie.
