I believe this was answered before, and that the dev stated you could play for as many years as you like (1000s, if you had the time).
Edit: The only real soft time limit that I'm aware of is an assessment of your performance at the beginning of year 3. But even that was changed to be repeatable if you've been a bit slow in accomplishing things, so there's really no reason to hurry. :)
