added a mod, then sprites fubar

Added in a mod recently to character portraits but made a backup of the files first.
The mod messed with the character sprites so I exited the game, and reloaded the original files back in.
Problem is, the error still persists, now the sprites only show the character's portrait so it looks all weird as they're walking as it cycles through all the corners of their portrait.
Help!

Yeah you need to place portrait mods in Content\Portraits not Content\Characters.

How do I unfix it, then, do I need to reinstall the game?

Re-install is one option. Another, usually easier method is:

Library -> right click Stardew Valley -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Inntegrity of Game Cache

It will restore all original files to their current up to date and accurate version. This process removes mods as well if said mods replace files.
