I have 14 Chests all categorized so I can easily find the stuff I need. Fruits, Vegetables, Fish and Animal products are in chests in my kitchen for easy cooking access.

Organization could definitely use some love. Short of keeping items in chests next to their relative points of interest (animal products near mayo/cheese makers, reserved crops near preserving jars/kegs, etc.) there's not really much you can do, mechanically.

I use about 15 chests. Each chest is for a certain category of items. I don't collect stuff though, so most everything gets sold. I only keep things that I think I may use someday. And every once in a while I go through a chest or two, re-evaluate and sell a bunch of stuff.

I have a mix of all of these.
A variety of chests in the kitchen. Foragables, each season produce, seeds, etc.
Then my resource area surrounding the shipping crate. Is 9 furnances, 9 lighting rods (Which is pretty overkill), crystalariums, and 2 boxes: gems/minerals box and raw resources box.
Between that corner and my kitchen I can dump everything I collected during the day super fast and always go to bed with just my tools.

Kind of all over the place but each chest has a different type of thing in it. But this one is my favourite.

I managed to keep it to about 8 total chests for a long time, but have finally started slowly feeling a need to increase it.

Most are clustered close to the farm front door area.
--raw crops/foraged plants (2 chests)
--finished artisan goods
--farm animal production, raw state, near the barn/coop vs. by front door
--weapons/armor/tools
--minerals
--artifacts/trash/fish (I don't fish much...)
--raw crafting mats (wood, sap, stone, ores, coal etc)
--cooked food (only stat-boosting or certain "loved" gifts)
--1 chest in the house for near fridge, as cooking ingredient overflow
--gold star items (2 chests)
--craft goods I've pre-made but am not using yet (scarecrows, extra tappers/sprinklers/stairs etc)
--seeds only

(in bedroom)
--1 chest for furniture rewards (I don't deco much, but I don't want to delete either)
--1 chest for achievement rewards/hats.

That's about it and I really really don't want to make too many more. Constantly opening/closing multiple chests, even if they're close together so I don't have to move my chr, is annoying.

-Things that go in and come out of furnace are in a chest next to the furnaces, likewise for kegs, preserving bins, mayo machines, cheese makers, loom and, recycling machines, each their own.
-One chest for mining and fishing needs (tools, energy foods, bombs and so on).
-One for farming (seeds, fertilizers, watering can et cetera)
-Bundle chest (or three)
-Gift chests (two: general gifts and other one for loved gifts of that special someone)
-Couple chests for keeper artifacts
-Fridge and chest in kitchen for food making stuff.
-One chest for woods and fiber and stone
-Junk chests, lots and lots of junk chests because I don't wanna give anything up.

1 outside the mines
1 in the beach, in the west side of the river mouth (where i have my crab pot farm)
