If you could add just *one* more crop to the game...
Mine would be Cotton. I grew up in the southern U.S., where rural farms still grow plenty of the stuff, so it would be a little "taste of home" for me. On top of that (in my ideal version of this scenario), the character could "refine" it into cloth using the Loom, just like they do with Wool from rabbits or sheep.

What *one* (just one, people) crop would you add to the game? Any particular reason?

Daikon radishes.
They could be the first non-forage crop grown in the winter.
Coffee beans that I can cook into coffee and gift to everyone.

Seriously though, Banana fruit trees.
Banana's are berries.

And berries are fruit.
I'd like to see Cannabis as a mod, since there'd be high potential with it. Also, Tea leaves. There's coffee, but no tea in game. I think Tea leaves+water would be a good entry-level beverage recipe.

Given all the emphasis on tea-related paraphernalia in Mayor Lewis's house, I was surprised to never find any tea, anywhere else, ever.

The first time I went in his house, I thought "Oh, man, obviously I'm supposed to gift this guy some tea." Nope.

i would love tea plants to be in the game, just standing next to my fire with a cup of tea on a cold winter night after a hard day of mining sounds so nice!

I'm adding another vote for delicious coffee. I could say the same Landwalker said about it being a taste of home, as my grandfather used to grow it, so I have many memories of running around (or galloping around) fields with coffee trees on them. Not to mention my favorite coffee house in my home town had a little coffee tree planted just in front of the door for reasons. :terraria:
What I really want are grapefruit. The only fruit that bears mentioning. Second for variety's sake, maybe: pears.

Raspberries would be nice. We have strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries already, the only thing that is missing is the master berry to rule them all.
Cranberry hater

Oooo watermelons. How could I forget those! Them for fruits, banana for tree fruits and carrots for vegetables.
I believe there could be some "controversy" with Watermelons and some villagers. The weirdest thing is like someone says "Cucumber" and it's true, even the icon of the pickles represent a pickled cucumber when there's no Cucumber ingame then the Major can ask you for Truffle Oil and a Cucumber "Don't ask him for what" .
What bothers me is that you can't craft Sugar, Wheat Flour (Seriously, Wheat but no Wheat Flour?!), and Vinegar ( I later discovered that you can craft vegetable oil from Sunflower seeds and Corn( haven't try this yet tho)
If having a Watermelon crop in a farming game is "controversial"/racially triggering, I weep for the frailty of this generation :aofbeer:

Good thinking on pears, I forgot about them. I'd love a good pear tree and a pecan tree.

On the subject of "crops that could be refined into baking components", even if we didn't have sugar cane (which I would love to have), the game could perhaps add sugar beets instead.

Sugar cane, though, would have the advantage of being able to put it into kegs in order to make rum...
