Catfish impossible to catch?
You know how you start fishing and the fish is really hard, so you know it's a special rare fish, well I found a spot where I often get such a fish, and I think it must be the catfish because it's a river, but it's impossible to defeat! It just up and down up and down never stopping long enough for you to catch it. Is that something that will decrease when I get more fishing level or something?

1. Lucky Day
2. Luck Food
3. Level 10 Fishing
4. Trap Bobber
5. Practice.

The catfish is not the hardest fish to catch by a longshot! :-)

Your fishing bar becomes bigger as you level up. Also naturally with time you get better at following the fish patterns so it will become easier in that aspect as well.

I think i know what you're talking about, it jumps up and jumps down quickly it's almost impossible to catch unless you have maxed fishing.

the catfish isnt that bad... imo teh ling cod and octopus are much ahrder to catch...

as soon you get the best rod and can add a trap bobbler eg its gg

Level up fishing more. The fish become less PRONE (They don't stop) to jumping up and down, as well as your bar being larger. Increase this more with food that increases fishing (Dish O' The Day+ Level 10 Fishing+ Trap Bobber made the Legend a cakewalk).

If you're trying to catch a difficult fish at level 5 with a bamboo rod, I've got some news for you...

One thing that I haven't seen mentioned on the forums is the patterning of these kinds of fish... You shouldn't ALWAYS follow every move of the fish -- there are specific fish that jump for half a second, then go back to where they were. You just have to learn the patterns of these fish.

With an Iridium-Rod and a Trap-Tackle and enough skill in fishing it is wsell doable ...
with the nfiberglass rod (IMHO) next to impossible

Katherine, I did mention getting used to those patterns becomes easier with experience in my first post of this thread haha

But yes you are right about the patterns, following the exact movements of the fish icon relentlessly is bound to lead to frustration. You got to anticipate it through predictability and experience.

I did read your post :-) .. I was specifically talking about the follow-every-movement tendency that a lot of people seem to play the fishing mini-game with :-)

I found the catfish one of the more difficult fish I've caught for the community lot bundles. I had the iridium rod, perhaps level 7 fishing. I don't remember what tackle I had, but I don't think it was the trap bobber (don't recall having one at the time, edit: I probably used the cork bobber). And I was probably using the trout soup for the +1 fishing bonus. I have no idea what my luck was that day; I was just taking advantage of the rain.

umm i can catch it with lvl 3 fishing its not that hard if you practice for like 2 rainy days
and i dont go down super fast when the fish goes down bc its easier to track it afterwards and its just trivial with lvl 5 fishing
