Sprinkler, Fertililzer and Giant Crop
I haven't seen a Giant Crop even though I use Iridium Spinklers in 15 x 15 configurations (so 9 sprinklers covering 225 squares) which gives some areas to cover 3x9 rows for chances of giant crops appearing for the applicable crops of course.

I am wondering if this is because I am using fertilizer underneath the dirt? As I did see some giant crops during fall of Y1 when I first started using Iridium Sprinklers I had gotten then from the traveling vendor?

Thanks in advance...

Sprinklers do not matter, I had 2 columns of Iridium Sprinklers and grew a large Melon with it. I wasn't using fertilizer however.

3 and half seasons and didn't see a single giant one. Use fertilizer on every occasion, could fertilizer disrupt the chance?

it's not all the fruit they seem giving large fruit, but i know the melon, the pumpkin and an other i don't remember can make big fruit, and you need to chop it with an axe, they have perharps other but i have not don't testing all.

Cauliflower is the third one (and actually the only one with which, so far, I was successfully able to produce a large fruit)

all the long term single harvest fruit and veggies seem to do it, it happens alot with pumpkins for me.

also I always see them inbetween my iridium sprinklers where the most room is for them.

I don't use speed grow or fertilizer, I grow around 1200 crops per planting as well.

So out of my last pumpkins I had 2 rounds of 1200, 2400 total, i saw 3 turn super that season.

I once started a new save to test something and unintentionally got a giant cauliflower with my first cauliflower harvest in spring (had completely forgotten about giant crops, since my main save hadn't gotten any yet).
It really only depends on planting 3x3 patches of cauliflower, melon or pumpkin. Nothing deeper like sprinklers or fertilizers. XD

I got my first giant crop on a fertilized melon field so no, it shouldn't matter.

Actually, it's been proven that IF you use fertilizer or speed-gro, every crop that could contribute to the giant crop space HAS to have that same fertilizer, or none at all. So if you have a 3x3 area, but use fertilizer in 3, speed-gro and 3, and nothing in 3, you will never get a giant crop.

To the OP: I've seen something similar. I put 4 iridium sprinklers in a 2x2 configuration (so it covers a 10x10 area). I planted 3 crops of melons in summer and 2 or 3 crops of pumpkins in fall. Never got a giant version. The year before I was hand watering four 3x3 areas and got at least one giant version a season. In both cases I was using quality fertilizer on everything.

Wait...how do you fit 9 sprinklers in one scarecrow range ? i can only fit 8 >>
First time using my large crop field, used the same fertilizer on every slot, got 3 giant crops. So yeah, idk that would probably help.

Scarecrow XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX Scarecrow this covers the 15 squares horizontally and vertically since scarecrows cover 8 squares out from where they are planted.

But only in a roughly circular pattern.

Here is the range: http://stardewvalleywiki.com/Equipment

@Harry -- I put the scarecrows in the middle of my fields -- they don't have to be on the edges.
