Wild honey is "standard honey", or honey that is not flavored. To make flavored honey, plant flowers near your bee boxes. The game considers all variations of an item type the same when regarding gifts, for example. So all kinds of honey (flavored or wild) will be considered the same, as will all kinds of wines or juices. In your situation, wild honey will work as the gift. Flavored honey will always be worth more than wild honey, by the way, so for all my crafting and gifting needs, I store the wild honey, so that I can sell the flavored ones.
Nor does giving them a "gold star" version of something matter, as a gift, as far as I know/have noticed in game.
