Tree Stump Walls?
So I just had an idea, plant trees in a line, let them grow in, cut down the trees but leave the stumps :steamhappy: Aside from the obvious (its gonna take a while) are there any unforseen flaws in this plan (like stumps rotting)

Only thing I know, if the stump is left, the tree will regrow in 10 days? Atleast Im sure they work like that

Aw balls.... I figured there had to be a reason someone didn't come up with it already... Meh, I'll still do it, I just need to keep paths down. Thanks.

Actually in other threads some people posted, that ConcernedApe said that stumps do 'not' regrow into trees.
And from my experience (after letting lots and lots of stumps once I heard they grow back) they won't grow back. So probably this idea could work, but I guess that's up to be tested :D

ha! on it! this is a great idea. the only other one ive seen was using lightning rods but thats really resource intensive.

maybe rods for the verticles and trees for the horizontals with tappers on would be the overall most efficient, though im pretty sure neither method would contain grass, so a path border would probably be nessesarry too

ah i remember why i didnt do this before now! the first thing i did on my current playthrough was to reduce all of the trees on the farm to stumps - to stop the spread of trees (my first playthrough got abandoned partly because my farm was a forest before i got around to trying to clear it)
but the thing is stumps still drop seeds. slower then full trees as far as i could see (or its just easier to see them cause they cant hide maybe).

So if you built a fence from tree stumps youd need a double width path either side of it to stop more trees spawning, which kind of makes the fence redundant.

Wow really? Eh, still worth it.

Tried it some days ago. The seeds took too long to grow, some can grow in just 1 day, some still not grow (into little blocking bush) after 5 days. Once I learned hardwood fence only need 1 hardwood per 1 fence, I just put hardwood fence instead. At least should give some time for that fence mod that requires Storm to work. Back then I couldn't start the game with Storm.

Do saplings drop seeds?

from my experience:
trees start spawning seeds on the ground once they hit full growth, but continue to do so as stumps.
only full grown trees give seeds when chopped down, and only while they have green leaves (no acorns or maple in winter).
naturally spawned seeds in the ground can be harvested with a hoe. this only happens on your farm

also if you damage the trunk of mushroom trees they do not regrow
so i think the same goes for normal stumps

I've thought about just using the jars and kegs like that ... I was assuming cows/chickens etc couldn't walk past them. I mean, I'm going to build at least some kegs/jars/hives anyway, one could just use them as a fence around buildings vs. clustering them together in a corner somewhere.

Only problem is the gate. Guess one could just use two fence pieces and gate to close it off. If it would work at all. :)
