If you're going to introduce JRPG-style combat (which won't happen, but if you did), I'd much rather see encounters triggered by running into actual enemies, the way it was done in Super Mario RPG (and probably other games, but that's the one that springs to mind first).
That's what I was thinking. :>
If you want to see combat done right for this kind of game, take a look at Rune Factory.
You're not some sword slashing warrior that can vanquish everything with skill.
You're just some normal guy (or gal) who's swinging around a clunky sword as awkardly as it probably would be.
A lot of people are saying that the combat is not the main focus of the game, you're right. However, I would have to say giving the player a choice to either become a farmer, fisher, miner, or adventurer (combat based), would give the game something that no other farming game has. The ultimate freedom to do whatever you want. Fishing and Farming are the best features so far. Although I love fighting in this game I really wish more would be added to the game.
Can't you just wait for the annual final fantasy release this year ot something?
