Do fruit trees feel useless to anyone else?
Some of the more 'expensive' ones cost 6000g to plant and then only give about 150g a day. Harvested fruit can't be gold star it looks like, while apparently fruit from the bat cave can.

Let's take peaches. You will only get basic quality peaches from trees. 1 peach is 140g. 1 fruit per day in the summer. That's 140 * 28 = 3920g. It original cost you 6000g. It'd take you 2 years before you pay it off.

Same goes for pommegranates

Oranges and Apples: 4000g initally, 100g per, 2800g for one month.

Cherries: 3400g initially, 80g per, 2240g for one month.

Apricot: 2000g initially, 50g per, 1400g in one month.

Not to mention--fruit trees can be destroyed by lightning (had a pommegranate sapling get eviscerated. Thanks, game, that wasn't an investment or anything.)

Tiller ups these by 10% but it's still not enough to earn a profit after a whole season.

These are honestly kinda pathetic numbers. If you keep a fruit tree for 2 years or more, then it starts slowly paying out, but you could just as easily (even easier, even) get a beehive or any other type of crop or resource generator and make more money.

Aside from just getting bundles fulfilled I can't really justify keeping fruit trees around.

Yeah you can use wine or preserves jars on them but you can also do that with literally anything else that has a higher crop value, much lower initial cost, can have its value increase by being silver and gold star, and doesn't take a whole season to grow (save for maybe ancient seeds but those are 750-1125 per fruit and produce for up to 3 seasons so they easily eclipse fruit trees, AND can be in the greenhouse).

Once you do the bundle the point in keeping them is because you've already made the investment. And they become worth when you wine or jam them

yeah but I can also wine and jam blueberries, cranberries, or even ancient fruit which you're likely to have found by then.

And you can horde up on those and just keep wining/jamming them throughout the season. Plus, if you have the greenhouse unlocked, then you can get these year round and constantly keep all your kegs and jars at capacity.

Plus artisan gooes scale off of the value of the crop originally. Most fruit tree crops have low values to start. The highest they go is 140g since they can't reach gold star. Most gold star berries surpass them.

Apart from the bundle stuff, they're just a thing to have.
Some people like being tree farmers or whatever you call that profession.

I'm just kinda bummed out cause I remember an old harvest moon game I played, fruit trees were time consuming to grow but were hugely profitable, giving multiple high-value crops each day when in season. This feels like they have a similar level of work (little bit easier since all you have to do is make sure their surroundings are clean) but for none of the reward.

As mentioned before: You get them for the bundels and then when you made this huge investment, you just keep them. And besides you have plenty of room on your farm and they look nice and maybe some day in the future they get a patch wich makes them usefull?

I think they are more for chain production than selling them as raw materials.

Maybe you need fruits to make something that sells better.

For the bundles i buy the fruits at the caravan. And i plant the trees only for the stetic of a mature tree, cherry are so nice on spring.

Fruit trees are awesome. Make some jelly out of the fruit, sells for a ton. Plus, fruit trees are the plant-and-forget items. No watering, no sprinklers, nothing else is needed. You can also fit a few of them in the greenhouse. When you look at the investment of other crops, it's pretty similar, actually (factor in either your time/energy watering, or the cost of sprinklers).

Don't they get an extra star value for each year old they are? So like 3 year old trees will give gold star fruit?

Every year the quality of fruit trees increase, increasing the quality of the fruit, dramatically increasing how much gold you get in the next years.

Also lightning destroys saplings, and when lightning hits fully grown trees, it just makes them have no fruit for 3 days. So no it doesn't destroy fully grown fruit trees. (And It's pretty rare for thunder to strike trees anyway, from my experience)

Lol. Fruit trees gaining stars wasn't patched in until a month after the post you quoted.

So then why isn't this discussion deleted?

Fruit trees are legendary for the greenhouse. The newest patch lets you place them on the red tile again, and since they're in the greenhouse, you get a crop everyday without forfeiting the precious greehouse dirt.

Edit: oh ♥♥♥♥, I just realized I posted on a basically dead topic. whatever
