Do you need to water tree saplings?

It says it takes 28 days for them to mature, but do you have to water
those in order to grow or they just do it on their own, like every other tree?

Nope, trees are self sufficient, once planted they do their thang.

what If grass or maybe any type of path (cobblestone, wood, etc)
are on the tree grow tiles (I belive it's 8 around it) will it stop growing?

I've been super confused by that for a while. You cannot plant two fruit trees within two tiles of each other (so each has the 8 radius each), the trees don't seem to mind grass, rocks and branches. Regular trees also seem to grow with only a single tile between them.

From my understanding, the immediate 8 squares must be clear while the tree is growing (no grass, no twigs, etc.). Once mature and producing fruit, those 8 squares can be paved or whatever you want to do to them with no problems.

But I may be wrong. I keep it clear just to be safe.
