Jojamart cheaper?
Hey all,

The game portrays Jojamart as having cheaper stuff thanks to efficiency, which causes the village shop to struggle.

But in reality, Jojamart sells everything more expensive than Pierre.

So, what exactly is jojamart selling cheaper?

Joja is actually just a front for a large government money laundering scheme which aims to siphon vast sums of American dollars into foreign banks before the inevitable collapse of economy and industry in the States.

Whoa there, easy on the political stuff.

I'm more referring to the in-game stuff. Jojamart doesn't sell anything cheaper than Pierre, yet Pierre keeps saying that he is struggling against it.

Is Pierre purposely selling cheaper to me?
Or did the game developer create 2 types of prices, the story price is that Jojamart is selling cheaper than Pierre, but the in-game price is Pierre selling cheaper for game play reasons?

More like the latter to me. Pierre closed on Wednesday, while joja open for all days in a week. You might think a single day won't effects you that much. But I've met that situation, got a few last days before end seasons, pierre closed, and if you wait for tomorrow, that crops won't bear fruit at all. Your choice?

I like to assume you're the only customer he has left so he gives you a discount for being loyal.

lol. Not sure what time you go, but nearly always I see people in the market looking at things on the shelves, etc. I can't be the ONLY customer... lol

Ok I just wish there was some fix for this mild inconsistency. Pierre actually giving you a special discount for being new to town would be an easy fix.

If you shop at Pierre's enough he starts sending you thanks letters in the mail with money attached.

I think that the 'cheaper' prices Jojamart has are those 'coupons' he gives away for 50% off like in the little event when he barges into Pierre's shop. Sadly he doesn't seem to think the biggest threat to his existance needs to be lured away from the competition with such discounts.

spoiler:
there is a cutscene where Morris hands out 50% discount coupons to the villagers, maybe the coupons make it better sometimes? too bad we can not get them.

Also, maybe if you become a Joja member you get a discount? idk

No, becoming a Joja member has not affected prices, that I've noticed. His seeds are still more expensive than at Pierre's.
Posted this on Cucklefish's forums:

- Pierre's seeds are cheaper in till the 'Discount ticket event,' when the seeds in Joja are slightly less expensive.

- Give the player reputation points when shopping in Pierre's/Joja, Pierre will become rude etc, loyalty gifts for shopping at Joja.

- Have residents actually shopping in Joja seeing as its bland and boring.

- Have Pierre's shop deplete in stock over time if the player shops at Joja, give Joja 100th customer.. banners etc to gloat.

- Ignoring Joja would lead to it closing due towards end game, (havent got 'end game' yet but i know the market can close down,) be able to demolish store and build something for the community etc.

The JojaMart goods that are cheaper than Pierre's are goods that the player can't buy—fruits, vegetables, dairy products, etc. You can see it all on their shelves (and on Pierre's shelves), but the only goods available to the player for purchase are, for the most part, seeds and crafting-related items—that is, the "inputs"—while the "output" items are what the NPCs are actually shopping for.

JojaMart's "input items" (e.g. seeds) are more expensive, so that's what the player sees.

Once you get a membership, prices are the same.

JojaMart is also open much later and it's open on Wednesdays and holidays, along with selling a few things like Joja wallpaper that Pierre doesn't sell. Plus they have the vouchers. Most of the time it's a tradeoff of price vs convenience.

Sunflower seeds are cheaper at JojaMart. Sunflowers aren't much for selling or gifting, but their oil is vital in many recipies and they produce it way better than corn, plus they're in a bundle, so you might want to run one 3x3 crop at some point and keep oil in storage.

I think it would've been cool if, instead of the binary join/don't join choice we currently have, jojo mart would receive more funding from their corporate headquarters as you spend money there, letting them expand. Their prices would be cheaper than pierre's to entice you, but their expansion could have negative effects on the town.
