Deluxe Coop Auto Feeder?
How does it work? I don't see anything I can put a load of hay into so it auto refills or anything?

If you build a silo it will automatically pull the Hay out of it and place it in the troth. You can also manually click on the hay dispenser in the coop / barn to pull out the missing amount of hay to manually add it in. The troth is filled every morning so you shouldn't have to do it yourself.

Ah I see, is a silo worth building? I don't get enough grass on my farm to get the fiber out of and I feel like I'll run out, especially during winter (since by winter I'll have 24 animals to take care of)

You can buy Hay from Marnie south of your farm. And yes I highly advise building a silo or two, a full Barn and Coop will chew through 2 silo's worth over winter.

I don't know how you're living without a silo honestly, do you use a chest or just carry all the hay around?

I usually just buy 100 pieces of hay and keep it at the bottom of my inventory to refill the coop with, I never run out of space (I have the max size backback) so it hasn't really been a problem for me haha :pleased:

I frequently run out of space with a max sized backpack xD

If you have a silo your hay is accessible from inside all the coops/barns. :)
And they can be very aesthetically pleasing.

I'll definitely be adding a silo when I've finished constructing my second Deluxe Coop, by the sounds of it, it seems like a good investment.

How do you run out of space so frequently? xD I usually plan out my day and only bring specific tools to make more space and such :pleased:

Auto feeder is as far as I know totally useless without a silo, so you really should focus on getting that. It "autofeeds" from the silo, without a silo its just a bigger thing for you to hand feed. That said, ive never built one without the other, so I dont even know how it would work without a silo, im just guessing.

I built 6 for overkill purposes. its 672 fodder to feed 24 animals for 28 days (winter), and i shoot to hold fodder for roughly 2 seasons for paranoia reasons. Id rather be overprepared by a wide margin. They dont cost much, or take up much space, so its easy to build a big block then never think about silos again.

Fiber and hay are two different things. You get hay from the "soft" grass that you cut with your scythe, as opposed to the grass that sometimes gives you fiber. You won't start getting hay from cutting grass until you have a silo. Once you build a silo, it automatically starts filling your silo whenever you cut some grass (a little hay icon will rise as you cut, but it won't go into your inventory, only into the silo, which when clicked on, will tell you xxx/240 hay).

You really want to get a few silos and cut the grass down to fill them up. It makes life so much easier than having to fill the feeders every day.

You'll get more hay out of cutting grass than you need. I easily fill up all 5 of my silos, and by the time winter comes, I end up having a ton of uncut grass left because my silos are already full with plenty of hay to feed all my animals for the entire winter. I've never bought hay.

Oh... I've cut down all that grass on my farm... Should I put down some grass starters and let it spread for a bit then cut it down?

It will grow on its own if you leave it to grow, but I'm not sure what "triggers" new grass. A ton always appears in Spring, so if you're in winter (or almost to winter) just let it go, since grass doesn't grow in winter and in Spring you'll have plenty of new grass. Any grass that's growing when Winter hits will just disappear.

If you're in spring or summer (or even early fall), you can buy some grass starter and plant them far apart from each other to encourage more growth. Don't let the animals eat it though, or it won't grow fast enough.

You really want to let a bunch grow before you start cutting it down, or you won't get a whole lot out of it.

What you should do is make a fence around the doors on the coop, and put grass in there, there's no need to cut until fall 28th, they like grass even more than hay.

Sure, buy grass starters from Pierre and put some in ur farm, when u harvest for hay try to leave some small patch of grass, so the can spread. Grass can sprout in ur farm sometimes.
