Controller Button Mapping Issues - Mac

Basically, whenever I use a controller only the right trigger, right joystick, and the + button work. I've tried it on an xbox one controller, switch pro controller, and joycons - all have the same issue. I tried manually button mapping but it's not resolving things like using the tool bar and menu with the bumper.

I've seen old threads about this exact issue that had resolutions, but those aren't working for me. Looking at another thread from 2018, it might be a SMAPI issue - which is disappointing because the whole reason I want to play via steam is mods. Here's that thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/413150/discussions/0/1735467426088870517/

I have the M2 Chip and I'm running Ventura 13.3.1

Does anyone know any other troubleshooting?

Hey - I'm on a MacBook Pro, running same OS as you. I use a controller regularly with *almost* no issues (I say almost because some mods just don't have the support one needs).

I recommend the 8BitDo Pro2. Easy to configure (Xbox, PS, Switch) in Steam and in game and long battery life.

I'll definitely check it out! It looks awesome. I've tried three different remotes though so i'm scared it's something in my game or something i've set that's messing it up :/

I can totally understand that! I would suggest checking your settings in Steam, as well as in the game. You should be able to reset controller settings back to default. Do you have any other bluetooth controllers or remotes connected to your Mac? If so, I wonder if that could be part of the issue? Just a wild guess. :)

There are a few mods (and games) that say they have full controller support, but that's not necessarily true. You still need a hotkey enabled to trigger them, or open them, or activate them, whatever. It's a bummer, but I've disabled mods that I really wanted because they just don't function the same unless you play on a keyboard.

Thank you! Yeah, I was disabling and adding the controllers - the only thing I haven't tried is a wired controller so I might try that too. If not I guess it's going to be one of those delete manually and see if any are the problem! I'll definitely update my post if it's a mod.
