Its very close to Stardew Valley. Almost to close some of the time, but every time it manages to stand out and surprise me.
Rune Factory, all of these are great and you can pick up 4 and 5 on steam (3 will be released on steam later this year). Great thing about RF is you don't need to play the previous games to understand whats going on but the event system in RF is a bit iffy and I've never been a fan of that. Gameplay is solid tho and v fun imo. Would definitely recommend a controller if you're going to get any rf game.
Edit: thought of another, while the gameplay isn't really similar to stardew, I think you would like slime rancher. it's a very cute, chill game which can act as a great palate cleanser.
They are somewhat similar, but yet very different.
i mena, i want to make fun of this, but i'm pretty sure i've spent similar amounts of time building and farming in fo4 as i have stardew so..... i guess it counts?
needs a procgen mine tho
I mean, with various mods it gets reasonably viable, but... I play FO4 differently. :)
I am currently trying Sun Haven and it's pretty nice. Thanks for the suggestions so far, guys, there's lots of good stuff here.

Slime rancher is on super sale right now on steam and gog for $5 super cute game where you raise and breed slimes (and can mix them) can have chickens and roosters and some crops. Starts out super chill like stardew but lategame can get intense with science machines and multiple zones. Like stardew you can scale as big or as small as you want and theres no real time limit or forced pace and the other thing you "kill" are tar slimes and really you are just breaking them back up into slime goo for the motherslime and if you die you go back to your house

I guess when I asked on advice on the next game to play, I posted some of those I've tried already. I guess it's only fair that I say a few words about them, and wether I recommend them or not. I feel like they all have a good idea, a right to live, so to speak, but not all of them had the same impact.
I love coral island, been playing it quite a bit. And, I say this with a bit of hesitancy, it's probably the best game of the lot, but also the least finished. It has a LOT of promise, and has the potential to blow all of them out of the water, but it's currently not realized. It's still good in its current state, though, and worth a look - but know that you will run into placeholder graphics and such, especially underwater, soon enough. At first it's annoyingly similar to SDV - it felt like a proper rip-off - but it finds its own feet soon enough that I can forgive it.
I'm very partial to the My Time At... series, mainly Portia (finished) and Sandrock (in development). Another SDV-like but with 3D (albeit cartoony) graphics, with more emphasis on story, adventure and crafting than farming, but you can play it however you want. This is one of the games I just return to play through time and again because it's such a heartwarming and nice place to visit - it gives both laughs and tears, and has a lot of depth to it compared to some of these games.
Harvestella is the only commercial/square enix game of the type, and it's certainly different in many aspects, but it's also really good. Production values are pretty high compared to many such games, but .. while I'd say it's worth a look to see if you like it, it didn't quite click for me - but my gameplay got interrupted by RL things, and that does take you out of it.
Graveyard keeper is one of my all-time favourite, despite having what I normally consider a fatal flaw - no character creation. It's a darkly humorous take on the genre, and it's fantastic, and its plot has its share of twists and turns. You're both the graveyard keeper, local vicar, and zombie overlord. Strangely, it works really well.
Immortal Life is a bit janky, and feels like it has the least developed gameplay - it doesn't flow as well - but it's original and interesting, and still being improved a lot. It is definitely worth a look.
I've now played Sun Haven for a few days and feel like I can comment on it. It's a really good contender, I'll give it that. It's very similar to stardew valley in many ways, its ancestry is carried on its sleeves openly. It's got annoying furry characters and all that, and it's the most open of the games, with numerous race and background choices (but no gender). The world feels less cohesive, more 'made up' in some ways, and it certainly doesn't aim at providing a challenge. Want a skill that gives you 1000 gold a day? Sure, here you go. Energy limitations? Nah, you can mine for 20 hours straight if you want to. It feels very... immature, really, but it's nice escapism nevertheless.
Stardew Valley is, in my opinion, what has defined the genre and the 'gateway drug' for this sort of game for PC gamers. Its heart, gameplay, and sheer comprehensive world makes it the granddaddy, the yardstick against which all others fall short in some way or another. I know AC and Rune Factory were earlier, but they were not on PC until more recently.
And yes, PC only, I am afraid, and I don't intend to mess around with emulators. Still, this thread is not for me only, but for anyone with a similar question.
