It got to the point that their legs were so accustomed to being on a horse, they just naturally grew that way.
After the girls became bow-legged, they decided they had to sell all the horses in town. The one that you get from Robin that comes with the stable had to be purchased and delivered from another town, and is likely a descendant from the same herd that Marnie owned previously.
This was during a time when people believed that in order to keep the horrors in the mines from invading Pelican Town, they needed to offer Yoba a human sacrifice. So once a year during spring, they gathered all girls of proper age to start the annual sacrificial dance. These girls had been practicing for many years before being allowed to participate. It was mandatory and could not be escaped. Not even if you only had one leg!
The one participant who dropped to the ground first would receive the honor of becoming the sacrifice. This usually happened two-three days after the dance had started. The dance itself was very difficult and included a lot of bowing and difficult poses that could last for an hour. Eventually all girls in town became bow legged due to this very difficult dance. This was also passed down to their children.
It is unclear how exactly the sacrifice was... Sacrificed. Some say a volcano on a southern island was involved. Others say a giant catapult shooting for the stars was involved.
What people eventually learned though, was that Yoba didn't want or need any sacrifice. This was during a time when a group of wizards and witches started to settle down in the valley. People feared them at first, but quickly realized they could live in peace with each other and that these witches and wizards could actually help to really keep the horrors in the mines at bay. So the annual spring dance became what it currently is today. A peaceful dance celebrating the good things in life such as nature, love and friendship.
The bow legged condition sadly remains and will forever serve as a reminder of the horrors that once took place in the peaceful valley!
