Is it better to play it local co-op or online co-op?
As in the title guys. And If I play both ways, do saves have to be different? Or can they be transferred?

Saves can be the same, you can even use your single player save as long as you placed an additional cabin.

Both local and online are a little unstable and you will experience crashes. Just keep that in mind.
