...I figured as much, I as being polite instead of rude.
It's the icon at the very end of the inventory menu, you upgrade it to copper and above and you will receive some gold for trash items like your old scythe and fishing rods <3 hope this answers it and clarifies it
The Trash Can can be seen here, it's #11. You can upgrade it at the Blacksmith. The higher level it is, the more value it'll return.

I recommend trying out the Golden Scythe before you get rid of the old one. Personally, I actually prefer the behavior of the basic one.
The scythe cannot be deleted with the trash can. This also applies to other items given from the museum in particular. It's just the way the game is designed.
?? Maybe find something other than a forum to try and be rude on; I did this last night, twice with items from the museum....how else do you "delete" them if you don't wish to have them? I can't guarentee the money after deletion with the items at the museum (i deleted a fishing rod and got 10g for it. The bamboo one.) Those are the things we are discussing, the items from the museum are most likely never going to be items to be given monetary value as they're earned bonuses where the fishing rod is upgraded repeatedly. Dramallamas
I'm wrong many times, I merely stated that I did these things last night, only for you to respond again as you took some great offense to being told you were wrong as I experienced last night this could be done; I have not tried with scythe (as stated above) I deleted the museum things and the old fishing rod. I never said the scythe is guaranteed, but said this was how to delete unwanted items and tools, again. Dramallamas.
I'll reiterate it once more:: I have been able to delete the old fishing rods that can not be sold, and museum items that can not be sold, by throwing them away. I haven't bothered to even try and delete the scythe as I felt that the original was better than the gold. I said you should be able to with the trashcan. The other items are the only ones I know. Don't post something with little to no backup evidence, nor explanation to help the OP so they can understand the games mechanics instead of simply stating people are wrong. Hence, Dramallamas. You posted a short, curt, and rude answer by simply stating people are wrong and not explaining where or how to find any more information on it. I stated what I know from my personal game experience, nothing more.
Which is again, wrong. And there are indeed things you receive from the museum which you also can't delete using the trash can. Believe what you will, but those are facts.
Congrats, you reiterated what I stated in the second post where I will once again copy it and past it for you to understand once more:: You will receive gold for trash items, like your old scythe and fishing rods stating you can upgrade your trashcan and get some gold sometimes, and in following posts (as you can clearly see in two posts above, but let me put them together for you) I have been able to delete the old fishing rods that can not be sold, and museum items that can not be sold, by throwing them away. I haven't bothered to even try and delete the scythe as I felt that the original was better than the gold.
I stated you should be able to, from a point where some one who has not tried to delete the old scythe, as is obvious from my statements. You simply jumped to a conclusion yourself by constantly responding as if I "can never be wrong" where I took my offense. You r initial post is curt and doesn't explain anything for the OP where I stated you were rude; and instead of simply just stating that it wasn't meant that way, you decided to attack me and make me out to be a rude person. If there was no ill-intention nor intention to be rude, perhaps you should learn how to properly give some one information and inform others they have misinformation. Being kind with your words, and giving more time than two scentences can enhance your experience with other people, and give you better understanding while being properly understood. Instead you would rather continue being rude, curt, and short without giving anything else nor any proof to your claims for the museum items (every item I have wanted to delete I have been able to, perhaps I have not found said items as I have not wanted to delete them? Did that occur to you?)
So instead of continuing this conversation that's apparently obviously you misunderstanding everything I stated being as I was stating absolute truth (if you actually check you can see how many hours and achievements in Stardew I have and can tell mine isn't as full as others are in this game); perhaps you could make a list of things that can-not be deleted for any reason at all? Or would you rather we continue to bicker like school children and not move on like adults and actually give the information for every one involved. No one else, none that have responded so far, has placed a list anywhere of "non-deletable" items, and I have scoured the Wiki for any information on deletions and nothing has backed up your claim nor my own. Since you are so experienced in the game, perhaps you could enlighten the rest of us on the items that ]b]cannot[/b] be deleted, as you say. Then any one can come in and add or remove from that list giving the proper answer and solving the entirety of the problem.
I hope you feel a bit better now after trying to project your own shortcomings onto me. I will waste no more time on you, dear. That's the only "adult" thing to do at this point :>
Yeah, I consider most of it as junk, with very few exceptions. The skeleton is cool, agreed, and I also like the standing geode. I keep it outside.
