can't get mods to work
I'm 99% sure there's something very simple that I'm missing but I can't get the game to load with mods. i have SMAPI installed, the mods are in the mod folder, when i start up the game it says "running SMAPI 3.18.4 with 14 mods" at the top of the window, but when I start a new game it just starts a vanilla game. I tried loading a previous game where I was using the same mods (different computer, I had no trouble installing and playing with mods on that one either,) and it give me an error saying "see terminal for more information" but I honestly don't know what I'm looking at there. anyone know what i'm missing, or is there a way someone can look at my terminal log and see if the issue is there?? I know only enough about modding to download and use them, but i can't troubleshoot.

Upload your SMAPI log, let the site do it's thing, then post the log in this forum for us to have a look at it.

The red messages in the terminal are the error messages. Usually it will tell you, if something is missing or something didn't start properly. SMAPI will still start the game, just without the faulty mods. SMAPI also saves log files in the sdv safe file location, which you could post here.

this is from just starting up the game and starting a new farm. the error message I was talking about shows up in game if i try to load my modded save, there's no error messages in SMAPI (as far as i can tell? i'm certainly not an expert)

The log looks clear for the new game.

Just curious, what's the OS of the other computer you can play your mods on? Windows?
littlemarsling Jul 11, 2023 @ 6:03pm
it's a desktop Mac and I wanna say 10.11 or 10.12? I was actually updating to the newest OS on that computer and it crashed and never booted back up so I've been using my laptop as a backup, that's why I'm trying to get the game to play again on this one.

That looks okay. I assume you played the old save with Stardew Vallley Expanded.

You could try downgrading SMAPI just to test it. Uninstall SMAPI. Then install the older version:

tried using the older version, seems to be no change except for where it recommends I upgrade SMAPI

it had been probably a year or two since I played my game on the other computer so its possible i was using an even older version of SMAPI on there? would trying a previous version help?

eta- I tried going back to 3.14.1 because the release date is around the same time frame as when I used it previously (as far as i can tell i guess) and that one was way too old, and it said one of the mods required 3.18.1 to run so I tried that one as well and no change. so i'm at a loss there, unless i just go back through all the previous versions to find one that works, but if there's anything else like that that could help i will definitely try anything!

Doubt it. You said you were using the same mods with the old save, but looking at your logs you haven't installled Stardew Valley Expanded?

Grandpa's Grove Foraging Farm seems to be outdated when looking at the Nexus comments, so that may be the reason why it won't show up.

Please try out this mod and report back. It's small and uses content patcher, which you already have.

Edit: So far you have only installed framework mods. So you won't notice them doing anything. Because there is no content mod, except the broken farm mod, that makes use of them.
