What is the point of this game?
I've wishlisted it ages ago and I still don't know what's it all about and if it is worth my time. Is there an endgame? Are there any stakes? Can I lose the game? What's the main objective?

Read the store page.

"You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home?"

Why make life hard for yourself when you can just read the answer straight from the source?

To add, here are the tags for the game:
Farming Sim, Life Sim, Pixel Graphics.

Farming sim, basically you can farm crops which includes veggies and fruits, and raise animals. You also get a pet that never dies. You also don't die. Nobody in this game dies.

Farm animals don't die, but and could be sold.
Edit: they could die under special circumstances (if you leave the barn door open, then go to sleep, a wolf attack might occur before waking up).

You can lose the game, yes, if you're not having fun with it.

There's always an endgame for all games, that's when you feel like you've done everything you can and have progressed. Games without any sort of progression don't exist, at least, I am unaware of them.

If you know one aspect in life without progression, kindly let me know.

It is essentially an open-ended pixelated farming sim sandbox. The game can go on and on until you feel tired of it or wants to start a new playthrough. With that said there is a sequence with ending credits which plays after reaching true perfection. But even after that the game continues so the true ending will be when you decide you are finished.

There are six main aspects in the game: Farming, Mining, Combat, Fishing, Foraging and Socialising. I do think there is a good variety of things to do, without it getting too boring but you should still expect a lot of "rinse and repeat" meaning you will find yourself doing the same things while working towards your goals. There is no death and you can't really lose the game. You have an unlimited amount of time in the form of days, months and years. There are indeed timed quests, but those are usually repeatable if you can't finish them on time. And speaking of time, the npcs do not age in this game and neither does the player. The only ones that do age are the players kids but only to the point where they become small children. Meaning they won't ever grow up to become adults.

The combat system is very basic and the worst thing that can happen is that you get knocked out, lose some money and items and then wakes up at the hospital. There is also a curfew, meaning you have to be back in bed before 2AM otherwise you will pass out.

The point of the game is that you are supposed to build up a run down farm that you inherited from your grandpa. You can expect pretty much everything you would from a farm. Crops, animals and of course also producing your own goods. It takes time, money and patience. There are many fun, creative and different ways of playing Stardew Valley and if you don't care much about achievements and true perfection, you do have even more freedom in how exactly you want to play the game. The most important thing to remember is that there is no need to rush. Unless you are speedrunning... So all in all, it is a very chill and relaxing game. Incredibly fun if you ask me, but to each their own. :brownchicken:

I asked legitimate questions. I didn't ask you to be an assh0le about it. The store page is pretty vague and doesn't explain much.
Yes games like Sims for example don't have an endgame. And this game looks very similar to it.

You asked questions, someone answered without scratching gravel and you call him an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I think it's clear who's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ here, and some self-reflection wouldn't go amiss for you.

Did you self-reflect yourself or think for a second before writting this nonsense?
The dude was neckbearding.

To have fun and/or enjoy yourself.

I don't think OP liked being called out for not reading/viewing the store page when it answers most of their questions. Either way, idc, people like them exist no matter what.

For future inquiries, OP, everything you need is here,

https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Stardew_Valley_Wiki

There's even a section for "gameplay" which includes modding, multiplayer, and achievements if you're into any of those.

The way I understood it was that the OP wanted a players perspective seeing how they mentioned they wishlisted it years ago. Which is more than reasonable. This forum is for everybody and nobody is forced to reply.

Fighting in a Stardew Valley thread? Lol. Anyways, you've already gotten some good answers but the game is a lot of fun and worth a try if it sounds even a little interesting to you. Maybe watch a little gameplay on youtube if you don't want to commit to buying it. Personally I am 400+ hours into the game and am still having new experiences. It's an impressive game with just a ton to explore, fun little secrets everywhere, and it was made entirely by one person, down to the art, coding, music, etc. Has a really fun, strong, active community. ConcernedApe (dev) is still adding content to the game years later. You can play however you want, and at whatever pace you want. You can make it more action-focused or more leisurely. You can absolutely min-max as well and rake in money which is super fun.

In summary... it's a very unique/special game and there's a reason tons "copycat" stardew valley games have shown up in recent years.

Others have given you great answers. I will just add I have 2000 hours in the game (paid $10 for it) and it is by far my favorite game. Just the music puts me at ease. I was a huge Harvest Moon fan and went looking for something similar and found and fell in love with SDV. If you like this type of game, you should try it. I hope you have a similar experience if you do.

Yeah, this game was made for people who loved Harvest Moon because the dev himself loved H.M. and made SDV as a result. Total labor of love and it shows in every aspect of the game.

But as others said, it's a farm/social game. You build up your farm, craft stuff and befriend villagers. I don't think there's much of an 'endgame', once you've done everything, that's pretty much it. You could start over with a new farm, or start over just to apply the things you learned and do things better/faster but that's about all that comes to mind to do after finishing the main game. Granted by the time you finished the game, you have more than gotten your money's worth in game time.
