The tragedy of Leah
Leah was the first character to catch my eye. She's fun, spontenious, artsy and beautiful. She paints and goes on nature walks and enjoys the outdoors. But when we got married all of the things I really enjoyed about her.... stopped. She was still great and wonderful and loving and caring but she would no longer paint and sculpt. She no longer explored the woods, she stopped her nature walks. I realized by marrying her, I took away the things she enjoyed doing. The things that made her special. Not on purpose and maybe even unknowingly to her. That broke my heart.

That's just marriage in general. She gave up all that to support you on the farm. Else you would be in her cabin painting and sculpting.
I agree that it is a tragedy this happens to many of the marriage candidates. I'm much happier about the ones who seem to continue their pursuit of personal interests or career after marriage.

Yeah, we really need a Marriage rework so that our spouses keep doing what they were before marrying us, and a bit more.

It wouldn't be bad to have them stay at the farm some days and spend the rest of the days doing their usual stuff, maybe more than before as we help them throughout the heart events.
I'm not home most of the time. It's quite hard to tell, what my wife really does all day long, while i'm in the mines, on ginger island or somewhere on the farm, after all i didn't put up a surveillance camera to check it constantly. I can only imagine, that they keep doing their hobbies.

Something like that is what I usually go with as well. I imagine my hubby doing all sorts of things while I am away. I know he doesn't, which indeed is a TRAGEDY! But it helps when you let your imagination kick in.

One thing though, and this goes for every spouse out there; Stop claiming that you have watered crops that has already been watered by sprinklers and fixed fences that never decays! ò.ó Like, you are not fooling anyone, dear!
Well, it's not more of a tragedy than their former live if you realize, that they doesn't really do anything before you mary them either^^ After all they just walk towards a specific place and then mostly just stare into the void, until you speak to them. They might have some special animations for specific points, but they won't produce anything out of it anyway, like even when Leah hammers on her sculpture all day long, it will never change in appearance, Haley won't display the photos, Sam will never clean the Joja Mart besides the one specific point he's sweeping over and over.

So if anything, we just relocate their tragedy but doesn't make it better or worse at any point^^

Scary. But a good point. And... If we continue down that road the whole game becomes one big tragedy. Who can say if every shipped crop really gets shipped somewhere? Who can say if there really are any fish in the ocean? And who can say if the animals really produce anything? One answer, consisting of one word: Tragedy!
Just wait till your spouse leave your infant or toddlers for go on vacation at Ginger Island with their besties. I bet my doggo take care of my kids, also my animals.

If u want a spouse who have a same routine before marriage, try to marry with people who work on clinic.

Do you really want to go down that road?

How about the fact that they're doomed to keep repeating the same days over and over and over again? That they never get older? The marriage candidates should be grateful that you've given them something new to do for all of eternity.
Wow this is getting really depressing. I don't want to be on this road anymore.

I'm out of here! :>

So basically, Zelda Majora's Mask?

In reality, though, I like to think of your time spent playing Stardew as follows:
Before your game starts - All the characters take the time to eventually become who they are when you meet them for the first time.
When the game starts - The characters become who they are the moment the game begins for pretty much the entire time spent playing.
Marriage - You and one lucky person gets to live a happy life together, most likely with kids as well. Should be self-explanatory as to when that happens.
Retirement - the moment you stop playing on your current save file is when you and your partner go into retirement. Your kids become the new owners of the farm and may even grow up to raise their own families at some point.

When you start a new save file, this cycle restarts from the very beginning and by some miracle, these alternate timelines start in mostly the same way.

The awful and unshakable reality of the game is that you DIED at your Jojacorp desk
And just like that, I got pulled in again. For some reason I find this conclusion very intriguing somehow. It also makes me think about this upcoming game:

I hope so too! It has been on my wishlist for a long time and I like the idea behind the game (if you watched both trailers you get what I mean).
So, I had to double check because I could've sworn the OP was wrong and they are. Unless you locked Leah in your basement, I married her and she creates art, goes for walks, etc. In the mornings, she'll sometimes give me some forage saying she found it on her morning walk in the woods. I just found her when I was playing last night out side, to the NE of the main house (in the original/main map) and she was working on some art. I remember finding her painting at the easel in my house (expanded room on the far right).
