"new question" help changing pet name??

I do guess this has been asked before, but when I look on forums I can see only posts several years old, and we all know game changed a lot.
I know farm animals names can be changed but why I can not change my pet name???
Is there any way to do it?

Go to your file directory and go to the file location AppData/StardewValley/Saves.

Find the save where you want to change the pet's name (it should look like farmname_12234556) and open it using a text editor.

Look for the string " <NPC xsi:type="Cat"><name>PETSNAME</name> " by pressing cntrl + F and finding something similar to it. Change "PETSNAME" to the selected name you want.

To find the string more easily, I suggest putting your pet's current name into the cntrl + F menu instead of the string and look for something familiar.

The cat is the animal i have so you can view it in the ("Cat"). If you have a dog it will probably be "Dog" instead.

thanks I tried that but I can not find "AppData" I get list of names of games and all but in stardew valley directory is only "common" Stardew Valley "content" and list of files

Are you on a mac or windows?

If windows try input on your keyboard WINDOWS + R and type in %AppData%\StardewValley\Saves. Find the folder for stardew valley in there. I think the problem was that you didn't put the % on both sides. my bad for not specifying

If mac press COMMAND + SPACE on your computer (or click the magnifying glass in the top right)
Paste the following text into the text field: ~/.config/StardewValley/Saves and press enter

Praise the bee.......... I was going INSANE looking that AppData directory locatono of it was soooo hidden. I found it instant now with that command and change the name.....
I looked it insane yesterday and now thanks to thee command sir INSTANT...

PS I can not realize why they do not put that simple function in the game???

you can do the above way, or you can do it in game after completing some things in the game lol

I did it thanks to commands above I just could not open console for window (also known as "i did not know shortuct for it) so I was going mad....
But but I had no idea you can do it in game? I thought you could only rename coop and barn animals.
