I'm not sure whether you get skill points for destroying boulders. I know you don't get any skill points for any rocks that break but don't drop anything.
I think you get more skill points for rocks that are outside of the mines, such as on the farm or in the quarry.
I don't know whether there's a bonus for anything in Skull Cavern, but I know you can't even go in without first hitting the bottom of the regular mine first.
ever do 5 mine levels at rainy days, dont wasteing money on bombs, and in no time mineing 10 is reached while the normal mine is complete opened on top.
you dont go into the skull caverns without maxed mineing.
Those ore nodes give large sums of xp (50) and iridium spawns in large quantities on deeper runs which ensures lots of xp.
You only need to mine 300 iridium nodes (~600 ore without miner and ~900 with) to get the 15000 mining xp needed for level 10. You'll also mine gems which give between 16-150 xp.
On a recent mobile run I did once I completed the mines on day 5 I spent the rest of the day diamond resetting for level 6 mining the first day in the mines. That's obviously not as effective on any other platform but diamond farming is a viable xp and monetary source as long as your journal buffering is good.
fastest way is to get a bunch of crystallariums somehow and clone quartz to buy bombs from the desert merchant maybe? does that make sense? if money is not an option.
So how do you hit floor 120 of the regular mine as fast as possible?
Generally I can only get 5-20 floors in a day with regular mining with an ordinary pick.
I don't find mining skill the first to max to level 10 in most of my playthroughs. Usually for me it is fishing first, then farming, then mining or forage.
PC, predictor.
Generally though mass stock up on food early in the save, that means fishing every day, saving iridium chub and selling everything else to buy salads, coffee, etc.
Pause whenever you aren't mining and whenever you need any mental break whatsoever, pause buffering saves so much time.
Go after clusters of rocks and then individual, while you might sometimes be unlucky and waste time going back for rocks, you'll usually get a ladder.
Have a chest and furnaces at level 0 and use those every 5 floors to stock up, get rid of, and smelt resources.
Pass out in the mines, don't die, passing out loses practically nothing, if you're playing at all optimally you'll have no money on hand basically ever and you'll be levelling up at least once a day for the first week(s), eliminating both consequences of passing out.
Task overlay, do two, three, many things at the same time to save time in each, monster attacking you? hit it, mine, hit it again, mine, and so, don't go out of your way for resources, you can always revisit the level.
Know your skill and work around it, not everyone is great at mental multitasking and even less so for certain things like task overlay.
Doing all this stuff on a standard play through I usually finish the mines in 3-4 days of mining, even less if I upgrade my pickaxe one or more times, I usually aim for steel as a powerful enchanted steel pick is basically an iridium pick.
buy bombs and go ham? if you got jade (from a crystallarium) you can buy staircases pretty easily to decend rapidly thru anything.
I recommend maybe also going to the earlier floors of the mines as they have a high abundance of rocks with easy/minimal monsters
Another important thing to add: Not all rocks give experience but all light gray rocks always do. Nodes give more experience compared to rocks.
Hope this can help <3
usually it is best to upgrade the pickaxe as you're reaching the new area, since needing to hit the iron nodes is better done with a copper pickaxe than with a normal one for efficiency. The same with steel on gold nodes and once you've enough for gold, obviously upgrade the axe another time.
If you don't want to upgrade it for whatever reason, then it is propably better to stick to copper area, given that minging nodes wich are 2 level above your pickaxe just wastes enormeous amounts of energy with minimal gain. Also try to focus those days where it either rains, so that you can go in full energy (if you doesn't do anything else than mining, then this doesn't really matter) and/or on high luck days, so that the ladder will be easier to find on top of getting more nodes to begin with.
I do know that rocks broken with bombs do add to your Mining XP!
I did a whole run once using only bombs and never using a pick, and my mining levels did keep going up.
