Is SMAPI safe (to install mods)?

Hi! I wanted to download mods and I find a video which explained that SMAPI needed to be installed. However, my antivirus ESET blocked about 300 files, so even if I completed all the steps, I can't get it to function properly because '' files are missing ''. I was wondering if SMAPI from the website https://smapi.io/ AND the website for downloading the mods https://nexusmods.com/stardewvalley ARE SAFE. Are there virus in the files?

Never had any issues with SMAPI. Sometimes virus detection programs will give false positives

Mods often change executable files, which generally freaks AV programs out. And it should, really. So yes, it's fine. I've never had a virus off Nexus, and certainly no mod with a high number of downloads would get away with it.

The developer is in contact with the maintainer of SMAPI. It's the modding tool to have and it would highly suprise me if any malware would have gone undetected by now by such a large userbase.

Looks like a false positive.

Nexus is the most used site to download mods and it would hurt their business if they would let malicious code on there. Let me put it this way. If you are fine with using Steam, which you are, then you may as well use Nexus.com.

Use a "fart around" gaming email account for Nexus. It's "your" problem if you use one email account for everything.

SMAPI.io is the official site to download SMAPI and many use it additionally for checking which mod is broken and to upload their SMAPI log for figuring out what broke their game/save.

Also nexusmods scans all the files uploaded to it for viruses so everything from there should be good as well.

Yeah SMAPI is safe! Just make sure you keep ESET up to date!(and other software and drivers) i use ESET as well and have never had any issues in all my years(20+) using it.
