Lightning in the winter

I am on winter 1 and I'd like to get a hold of some batteries.
Is lightning the only way (other than friday/sunday cart)?
And does lightning not come in the winter? It does in real life...

Pam will sometimes send you a battery pack in the mail if you've befriended her, it's probably random and not a reliable source, but still.

Pam is grumpy, divorced (Man just left according to Penny) lives in a trailer and drives a bus. I can also assume she smells bad and is generally unpleasent. Video game or not, I don't think I would seek her company.

There won't be any lightning in winter.
You can either befriend Pam and hope she sends you a battery or check the travelling merchant on friday and sunday if he got any batteries.
