Crystal things in cold rock part of mine

Hi, so I made it to he cold rock part of the mine and there are these colorful crystal things that shatter and give me nothing when I break them, are they just decoration, or do the have a purpose/ have any drops?

Sometimes they drop refined quartz.

The chance for a drop, at least for my luck, seem to be super low. I get my refine quartz from fishing then there, so I guess it just a bonus if it does, but do not relie on it.

No real purpose other than just to block you, but you can just use your sword to cut them down. I think at one point I got a refined quartz from one once, but if so it's extremely rare and not really worth doing.

If I had to guess I get 1 refined quartz from them per like 40 - 60 of them destroyed. Theres so many ways to get refined quartz its not really worth.

Still they are nice where you can get throught a place without having to switch to your pickaxe or are using an non-upgraded pickaxe.
