Wake up in your bed, no penalty outside of 50% of your energy bar.

It's better to just stay to 2 AM in the Skull Cavern, especially if you've gotten deep for the extra Iridium and the penalty is fairly minor to really warrant bringing a home totem with you (and to save extra inventory space).
