Should I upgrade my house first or get a chicken coop?
Is the house upgrade important? I'm at summer 23rd Year 1

House if you want to start cooking, chicken for whatever other purposes you need it for.

Can cooking make a good profit or is the chicken better? I want to make a lot of money for now..

Cooking isn't for profit, it takes the base value of the ingredients and adds it together (usually it sells for less even), cooking is for health / energy / buffs.

Chicken / egg / mayo isn't a fantastic source of income but it is constant and somewhat reliable. But you are better off with plenty of farmland for crops if you want money.

I already have a stable income from my crops , but I think I'll get the coop since it does bring some more income. Then I buy the house upgrade I guess. Thanks!

Cooking is quite useful if you need some energy quickly for the mines. Some recipes only need one ingredient e.g. fried egg & significantly increase the amount of energy they give you. There are easier ways of getting this energy though - plenty of options in the crafting panel. It's also useful if one of the marriage candidates likes a certain food, but you can buy a number of well-liked meals from the saloon so there's not much point.

On the other hand, it is probably better to direct there raw ingredients towards processes e.g. mayo/pickle because you will need the income in 1st year & to forage/fish for energy replenishers.
