Barn animals and pregnancy?
So how does that work? Do they just magically get pregnany somehow or do I need to do something to make that happen?

You impregnate them yourself.
OR, alternatively, you get them in pairs. No idea how that works, since the only cows you get are milk cows, but I know nothing about cows and how they breed. However, right clicking on the animal to the heart screen, and to the right should be an option to toggle whether or not your animals breed.

Actually, there only needs to be one, and as long as the breed option is turned on, there is a very small random chance of them having a child. You cannot actually impregnate them the way you can in HM, it's 100% up to random chance.

Mine hasn't got pregnant yet. I assume it goes up with number? I admit, I'm wrong :/....once again!

Personally, I have no idea what the actual chance is. I had my cow give birth once in 2 years (with only 1 cow), a pig give birth 3 nights in a row (with only 1 adult pig), and my three goats had between them 1 kid per season for a year and have had no kids since. So I think it's just up to the RNG personally.

I would LOVE the ability to give them a miracle potion like in HM though.

All my animals are toggled on. I have one of each and a rabbit too. It's been over a year and no births. I'm probably gonna give up and buy another cow. I need more milk and cheese.
