Fences need to last longer.
It's pretty annoying having to rebuild them several times per season, and sort of unrealistic, specially considering actual ston or some kind of hard wood fences last for years.

Maybe instead of completely rebuilding it, a fixing option would be cool. Like you go near the tile that's broken and just right click on it to fix it. The material cost would be automatically removed from your inventory.

That's already in the game. But you repair fences with crafted fences in you inventory, not the material. You have to click the crafted fence on top of the deteriorating fence. You can craft a stack of them, and then click and hold on the fence as you walk down the length of it, it'll repair and replace all the broken and missing sections.

As for the fence breaking so quickly, just don't build trash fences. Skip wood, make stone wall fences, which last a whole season. Make hardwood fences if you're still determined to use fences, but honestly, a better option is to use indestrucible objects like furnaces, kegs, cheese and mayo makers. Gates last 100 days and you can place them in a row, so you could make an entire fence made out of gates, but the cost is 10 wood/section instead of 2.

Or if you've moved up to iridium sprinklers and don't need your quality sprinklers anymore, use those quality sprinklers as indestructible fences. Not pretty, but lasts forever.

Your tips are good but yes not pretty. Some of us actually like the look of fences. If they are meant to be a resource sink then maybe they should be more expensive. But nothing is as tedious as having to replace a few stone fence sections every day.

I like the look of stone fences... Why not let them last a year at least?

Hardwood fences are going to last something around 2 years, so that + a wife is the ultimate solution to the fence problem.

Indeed.

lol I can already imagine fences made out of furnaces, the ultimate evil farm.

if you put up stone fences on the first of spring, they should last nearly until mid summer. then, midsummer, you replace the bunch and they will last long enough for winter. during winter, I pack up everything and don't care about it. until the start of spring.
Also, if you like wooden fences, use hardwoord ones, they are basically a recolor and last a lot longer.

An alternative option would be to get a mod for it, like giving fences (of all types) infinite HP: http://community.playstarbound.com/threads/smapi-0-39-3-zoryns-mods-too-many-to-list.108756/

At least she fills my cats bowl, too <.<

I married Sam, he's always repairing my stone fences, though they don't need to be repaired much (no mods on them, yet)

The upgraded wooden fences will last long. When you get married your spouse will keep them repaired.

I use iron fences. Never had one break since 1 year and 2 seasons.

I got tired of fences deteriorating as well. So then I thought, "Im gonna make a fence thats not a fence, and the fence makes me money."

Use bee hives as your fence walls. Works perfectly.
