I don't really care for Abigail. She's the spitting image of the negative millenial stereotype—live at home, mooch off her parents, complain about how she gets treated like a kid (because she acts like one), contribute nothing to her household, etc. I get the "I want to have an adventure" thing, but... I don't know. Sometimes it feels like she just wants to do things out of spite. I would like to like Abigail, because it seems like she could be great... but the way she's been done, I just find Abigail one of the most disinteresting characters in the game.
On the other hand, I love Leah and think she's awesome. She's independent in every sense, takes care of herself and enjoys it. She's doing what she loves, and like the player-character she left behind a life that was limiting her and trying to force her to be something she didn't want to be out of some sort of sense of meeting personal-or-societal expectations. She doesn't take crap from people, but she's sweet as hell towards those she's close to, and she's passionate about everything she does.
Just my cents.
(Edit: Of course, I also think Haley is awesome and went so far as to marry her in my first game, so clearly I'm not in-line with the "usual" perceptions of the bachelorettes.)
but other than that its not really interesting ..
so , leah for me
So what's the positive millenial stereotype?
I agree with this, i really want to like Abigail more but... Its just not there. I'll get them both to ten hearts, and see where i end up after. I'm probably going to go with Leah for the reasons you said though. Thank you everyone!
But I think more people like her bcause "hur hur vidya games" and Goth because apparently that's still trendy.
Leah and Haley are my favorites.

I'm more drawn to Abby, but if you want someone more mature, go Prince Charming and take Penny.
Everyone chooses Abigail? From what I've experienced watching on Twitch and Youtube, everyone chooses Leah.
I disagree, I don't see her that way.
I'm just not getting the "sweet and innocent" vibe from Leah. She couldn't handle the commitment of living a "normal" lifestyle with her long-term romantic partner, so her response was to dump him/her and run away from all responsibilities. She gives up whatever commitments she had in the city to live in a shack, where she is so poor she has to forage for wild food, and yet she spends what money she does have on alcohol, to the extent that she's a fixture in the saloon every weekend. She's a lush. She just gets off the hook easy because she's attractive and booze "helps her creativity", while Pam is widely derided as an alcoholic because she isn't attractive and isn't utilizing inebriation for some other purpose.
When you ask Leah about her art she says she doesn't make art for money, she does it for "the experience" or the "pleasure of making art" or some BS like that. Please. She's unmotivated and unindustrious. She frequently says things like "Do you ever take an entire day off? It's a refreshing break." or "What should I do today? Any ideas?" She's not "seizing the day", she's carelessly letting time slip between her fingers. She can't handle responsibilities, so she adopted a low-pressure lifestyle where she can work at her own pace without answering to anyone else. She's a hippie-dippie treehugger who'd rather lick the moss off rocks than work for an honest dollar.
Sure, okay, she has passion. She has a drive to make art. But she only does it when she feels like it. She's more concerned with feeling good, being relaxed, and having pleasurable experiences. She's a hedonist.
On the other hand Abigail is a Manic Pixie Dream Girl. She has issues with her parents, but pretty much all the singles in SV have issues with somebody. Haley doesn't get along with her sister, Penny is ashamed of her alcoholic mom, Alex has anger towards his dad, Sam doesn't get along with his parents, Sebastion is keeping his step-dad and step-sister at arm's length. Abigail's conflict is certainly up front, but she's open about it and able to address it directly.
I have a difficult time seeing the emo/goth thing for Abigail, which might just be me looking at her character through a different lens than everyone else. People call her "emo" but that doesn't match her behavior at all. She's not mopey, she's not The Gloomy Girl trope, but she is a bit morbid, a bit inclined towards the occult. It's not "Ugh, we're all gonna die anyway, everything is pointless" type apathy, it's "aren't grim and macabre things fascinating?" She's not Marilyn Manson and Hot Topic goth, she's Wednesday Addams and Tim Burton gothic.
Her mother accuses her of staying in her room too much and playing too many video games, yet Abigail frequently leaves her house to go all over the map, from the Wizard's tower to the railroad tracks, to the library, to the mountain lake to play her flute in the rain. How does gleefully playing the flute in the rain make her a shutin? How does having an obsession with ghosts and spirits make her a depressive? The behavior we see from her is not consistant with what other characters say about her.
My first impression of her was that she was like a JPRG companion character plucked out of some other fantasy game and plopped into a sleepy, do-nothing village. She's bursting at the seams to bring something outlandish and inspired to her ordinary, bo-dunk life. Abigail aspires to be The Action Chick.
I was devistated when her mom revealed that purple wasn't Abigail's natural hair color. Which, I mean, go figure, right? But with other characters like the Wizard, the Governor, Sebastian, Jasmine and Shane with purple hair, I thought it was just the standard fantasy world stuff. Even her own mother has green hair! But Abigail alone is called out for coloring her hair. I think the combination of dying her hair, wearing a collar, and the "Ugh my parents don't understand me!" makes a lot of people think of her as a Hot Topic teenie bopper, and I can see that. I'm just coming at this from a different direction that's more forgiving of her unlikable qualities and less dismissive towards her aspirations.
