And I tend to agree with the OP - after the second year there really is no reason to visit the festivals again, besides from RP or if you didn't win the prize at the first try. At least the dev is aware of this issue - in the new beta patch the spouses' dialog is slightly changed during festivals.
I usually don't bother going to events, unless I get trapped into going to it. Some of them, after you've seen them once there's no point. The only one that is decent is the Fair because it actually has things to do, but even then, it's still all the same junk year-to-year. The rest of the events are fairly pointless and a waste of an entire day.
The Luau is annoying because it's a "potluck" which is usually you bring a dish to it, but once you're literally trapped in the event you find out it's actually a big soup pot. Year 1 I brought a dish to the event because I didn't know it was a soup. Year 2 I brought a gold-star item to the event, got the best outcome, and got nothing for it. I don't see the point of this event after Year 1.
Doesn't need to be a huge production for each event but at least to have some different dialogue at a few various friendship/heart-levels & spouses or at LEAST different dialogue for Year 1-2-3, and to get an item + shop per event would be nice. Otherwise give us an option to avoid the event, or limit it to a few hours a day so you don't lose an entire day. Sucks when you want to check your Crab Pots/fish on the beach and you can't because the Event takes over the entire main town. Also sucks if you need to turn in a timed Quest and you forget about the event.
Let's put it this way- the events change so little that Jodi actually glitches into Kent during the Ice Festival fishing contest, because Kent wasn't accounted for after Year 1.
