What should I plant at the turn of the season?
It's getting towards the end of the season, and I realise that I won't be able to plant any seeds, because there isn't enough time for them to grow before Spring is up. What should I do? Leave my farm empty? Or just plan better next time? Will my Spring plants really die off as soon as the first day of Summer beings?

Yes they will. Best save them for next season.

*To explain a bit, yes, your Spring plants will wither and you will lose the harvest. Rather save them for next season and use the rest of the current season for fishing and mining,

As soon as summer begins they die and you have to plant summer crops. Personally i would suggest a range of crops, but especially go with blueberries. They gave me a nice tidy profit, dont forget your fertiliser first. Melons are pretty good too but only one harvest crops, whereas blueberries can be harvested multiple times until the season is over.

But Melons have the chance to grow as a Giant if you plant them on a 3x3 field (How bigger the field with the Melons on it is, the higher the chance to grow as a Giant = Giants give you 21 Melons instead of 9).

A little list of the best things to grow in Summer (If planted on the first of Summer), maybe you could use it :
B= Price to buy for S=Price to sell for and x5 means they will regrow 4 times, so you can sell them 5 times

1. Blueberry B=80gold S= 5x80 gold Win= +320
2. Tomato B= 50 g S= 6x60 gold Win= +250
3. Melon B=80g S= 1x250 g Win= +170
4. Red Cabbage B= 100g S=260g Win= +160
5. Hot Pepper B= 40g S= 4x40 g Win= +120

Of course you will get more for a Starfruit, but you have to get the seeds from the Lady that you can find behind the tower of the Wizard.
The other crops have a Win of 100 or less, so I'd recommend the 5 crops on the top. (And the prices are only about normal crops, you will get more for golden star crops)

Hope I could help a little.

Oooh i actually didnt know that about melons thanks, i only grew some because i got them for a reward. I couldnt afford any at the start of the season so i never got any.
I only really grew Blueberries and Tomatoes, and a few pepers i got from somewhere for free.

At the beginning of each season, I plant the crops, that take the longest time to grow, preferably those with several harvests. Towards the end, I plant the shorter, single harvest ones, the last couple of days nothing at all. So, you can also cut down the time for manual watering and go fishing or mining instead.

In the 2nd year, you can also use the seedmaker (turns crops into seeds) before the season starts, to have the seeds ready at the first day of the season. If you are so lucky, to get the greenhouse repaired, you can grow any crop at any time of the year - although on a very limited space.

Starfruit seeds are sold by Sandy in the Oasis. To get there, you need to repair the bus (check the community center for that).
Another option would be to plant something cheap like wheat a couple of days before the end of of the season. That way you'll have less work re-tilling next season as you only need to syth the withered plants instead of tilling.

Spending money instead of stamina and time? Interesting idea.

Forage seeds or any multi harvest crops are ideal for this as well since they remain throughout the season and if you have sprinklers you don't have to re water either.
