Mistake with romancing Elliott?

So I finally got to 8 hearts with Elliott, it's nearing the end of Autumn (27th) and it's the day of the Spirit's Eve. However I got the letter from Elliott about his book being finished and to come to the library in the afternoon, but cause the festival is being set up I can't go anywhere near the library until night which will be too late.

Is there a way to still get that event, either by not checking the mail or something else. If I miss it the first time will I be able to get it again?

I had a similar problem with a festival occuring the same day as a romance event, you should be able to go to the same location at the same time on a different day and it will still happen.

I'm not sure if it has to be on a certain day of the week, I think as long as it's the same time and place they told you to arrive (e.g. library 9AM-2PM) you can still get it.
