How to get the mushroom trees?
I've seen a bunch of people getting those huge mushrooms growing on their farms and figured It'd just happen on my farm sooner or later... But now I'm on my third save file, with a total of six years between all of them and I've yet to see a big mushroom grow.

Any tips for increasing the likelihood of it happening?

i always have mushroom trees growing around my farm. If i dont cut one down, more mushroom trees will start growing around it.

I too am on my third playthrough and never heard about mushroom trees before.

Leave a part of your farm full with trees and unattended. Trees will grow and grow and grow and one of them might become a mushroom tree.

Once you got one, cut ALL the trees around and let that single mushroom tree multiply. Then add a tapper and get common, red and purple mushrooms :D

I think it's just random...I probably should have thought about this before razing my jungle of a farm to the ground...

theres nothing special about mushroom trees. By end game you might even want to destroy them because

1) you cant control their placement, they can mess up your farm layout and block paths etc.

2) they give u common mushrooms most of the time with tapper. It is far more efficient and easier to get higher grade mushrooms with mushroom caves or mining.

Yeah, but look at it this way. If you're too skimpy to cook for yourself, you can always eat common shrooms for a small energy boost. Plus, some of the villagers like common shrooms as gifts; and, if need be, you can sell off a bumper crop of commons for quick cash.

I've already got the mushroom cave, so my reason for wanting the mushroom tree is purely because I think they look neat. My farm's also pretty early in development so I can still adjust my plans if I do manage to get a big mushroom.

Yeah, why not have your own mushroom kingdom, of sorts.

All CA needs to do is give out "Mario" style shrooms as easter eggs, with a twist. Maybe some shrooms give you 2x strength/endurance for a limited time, maybe you can cast flame breath. Maybe even a rez for the caves ("1-up"), or a mini-invincible (also for the caves). Or how about a mushroom pet? :D

I wish there was a way turn a normal tree into a mushroom tree with some product.

Huh. Well, there's the RNG for ya - I was trying to plant a maple, in a small area I'd planned on planting a total of 6 trees to tap for resin/syrup, and when I come back to check on it later in the season it's become some huge mushroom. I was actually going to chop it down, thinking maybe it was a bad thing - but a quick google search clued me in. Tapped it, and left it in there - but just goes to show you, this is my very first playthrough (and still in year 1) and I had one spawn from my planted seeds - sounds like some folks are trying for them and haven't seen them in several years...

...face it, computers exist to screw with us via the Random Number Generator... :happy_creep:

Mushroom tree + cave is a great idea. Plus when you finally cut it the amount of reds is superb.

I found this big mushroom on my farm:

Are there different types of big mushrooms?

There are only red mushroom trees that I know of.
I have found that most mushroom trees grow in invalid tiles where trees can normally grow, I have grown one accidentally on my farm by planting a maple sapling in the shadow of the cliff on the top part of the farm. There are several screenshots in my profile if you want to check them out.
Edit: just read Jeffreyac's comment, and I had the same thing happen to me, in summer year 1.......
