Spouse happiness.
Does anyone know what exactly dictates spouse happiness in the game?

I'm married to Abigail, and thus far she's only been annoyed with me once -- yelling at me to make my own breakfast -- but suddenly she went from 13/12 hearts down to 11/12. I'm not sure why. I speak to her every day, I bring her gifts a couple of times a week, and they seem to get on perfectly fine.

She acts weird every time I give a gift to another girl -- even if it's on that girl's birthday -- but thus far I've never seen a heart drop from that.

Does anyone know what actually dictates spouse approval?

I'm not entirely sure, but I know that it decreases your relationship with them if you gift a bachelor or bachelorette. The only way I've figured out around that is to make sure to give him one of his favorites on the day that I intend to gift a bachelor/bachelorette. That seems to do the trick, but I'm still figuring it out myself.

I gift my spouse every day (even if it's just something small) and make sure to always talk to him. After an in-game year we're still at 13/12. The only time it dipped below that (to 11/12) was when I skipped gifting him a couple of days in a row and gave a gift to one of the singles.

I give Harvey a jar of pickles every morning and he seems happy as a clam. Even gives me a massage every few days, which feels really good on those tired muscles after I've been slaving in the mines all day. The only other gifts I've given, though, are to the Dwarf and to Jas, in order to complete my ten hearts with everyone. Haven't given any to my old flames. I may have to try that, just to see if I can rankle him a little bit. ;-)
