Sunflower Uses?

So, I kind of got tired of just lining my farm with the cash-cow crops. I have all the money I need now, so making another bajillion Gs off of berries seems pointless. With that in mind, started going for variety, but I cannot for the life of me, figure out what makes sunflowers profitable.

So, what am I doing wrong? I don't expect to make, like, "Big Cheddar" off them them or anything, but they seem to be LOSING me money.

The only mod I have that would remotely interfere with the sunflowers is the harvest all plants via scythe, however, I did not use the scythe. I do have the Iridium Band on which gives you magnitism. I wasn't walking through my flowers until they were flowers. And they were giving me seeds like, every 3 - 5 days. They were around a sprinkler as well, meaning they were being watered even though they were matured flowers.

Ah, that's the mod I found while researching this, and prompted me to ask. Apparently there's a bug with the earlier version of the mod that does that. Everything else you mentioned doing I was also doing.

Is it this mod or something else:
When I pass through ready-to-harvest sunflowers, sometimes they throw up dozens of sunflower seeds by just being passed through.
I got 100 sunflower ready to harvest and by just walking over them I got over 690 sunflower seeds.
Weird.

That's a bug with an old version of this mod. Update the mod

So I raised some sunflowers. Yeah they can give 0 seeds back. But with the seed maker you can get quite a few using the flowers. So basically oil costs 200G. You could get 1-(4-6) seeds per flower (Including the seeds it may drop from harvesting)I suppose as long a the seed maker doesn't give you a mixed seeds. Theres always the chance milling sunflowers you get an ancient seed too.

So if you don't have a few seed makers and oil makers sunflower might be something to avoid.

Getting Farming 9 by your first fall isn't too hard.

I was able to confirm that it was the mod. A little bit of a disappointment. Will have to get the updates mod for that. I don't want something overpowered.

Basically, you don't plant sunflowers for profit. You plant them for looks or to drain your bank. Corn is a much better choice for oil.

Sunflowers are alos great gifts for people who love flowers and they are one of Haley's favortie things.

I don't plant Sunflowers to make money but to use as gifts. They can also be used to make oil for cooking.

I do them in fields of 24 and replant/keep for replanting the seeds that pop when I harvest, I maybe 1-2 during the two seasons I'm growing them have a bare spot or two.

then, flowers -> seed maker -> seed maker seeds into the oil press (NOT popped seeds, those are for regrowing)

(don't put flowers into oil press, flowers give one oil, or 1-2 seeds in seed maker, seeds give one oil -- also, the more things you run through the seed press the more ancient seeds you get, and my sunflowers usually give me them enough for this to be a consideration)

with oil being worth 200 and corn being annoying, it works out.

ymmv if you don't find corn annoying.
