Lost Save File 100 Hours of Progress Gone

Absolutely furious as my extremely advanced save file which I had spent over 100 hours in is now gone after a crash. Anybody have specific instructions on how to replace/recover the save file so I get my hard work back? It would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Do you have a backup file?

i backed it up after and tried to alter some files but with no avail. I hadn't backed it up before it happened. :(

check save file location and see if files are still there (appdata/roaming/Stardew valley/saves/[insert your character's name here with some random numbers]
see if there are any files there.

You can go back a day, if that helps?

in %appdata% -> Stardew Valley -> Saves -> "Farmername381626" you'll find your saves.

Delete "farmername381626" and "savegameinfo381626" then RENAME the "farmername381626_old" to "farmername381626" and the "savegameinfo381626_old" to "savegameinfo381626".

(your number string will be unique of course and don't use farmername, use your farmer's own name)

Wait so if I only have these files what should I do? I see:

Never seen that... I'd copy the whole folder first, to be sure, placing it safely on the desktop. Then try cutting the _old suffix and deleting your TMP files (which i assume are temp, maybe created as the game detects a problem?)

At least if you copy the whole folder with all four in, if this doesn't work you can try something else

Alleluia I did it! I had to change the names of the old files AND temp files. All progress has been restored! Thanks guys!

aye, and have a habit of manually backup that folder to somewhere else too. Not just SDV, but many other games / programs also use appdata as a storing place. 5' of doing will save you from heart attack or uncontrollable rage.

Hi! So I tried this method, but before I did it, i accidentally loaded up the game again. I was on Spring 9 Year 2 and ended up back in Winter 16 Year 1. Steam asked something about not enough cloud storage, and I chose to keep the progress on this machine, and lost 20 hours of progress on my save. Do you know how to solve this?

Alas my dear Warsaw, I know nothing more - the loading before recovery may have cucked you severely. Best wishes and a bump that someone may help you save your farm. If not, thank Joja that the game is worth starting again..

When I see my file in stardew valley his hat is gone and his forehead is gone. When I try to use it, it crashes. I did what you said but it keeps putting the other files back with the "_old" part in it. If you know what I can try to do or suggest what I can do I would appreciate it.
