Gender of Animals?
Is there any way to know an animal's gender BEFORE you name it? Or any way to rename it later? I'm tired of seeing things like "Okay, I'll send little Sandy to his new home!"...

Nope. But I'd assume they're all females anyways since they're producing milk/laying eggs. Just not the pigs. Probably.

Marnie says "his new home" or "her new home" after you purchase and name them, so they do have genders. All the chickens, cows, and ducks I purchased were female, but some of the rabbits were male. Not sure about the goats.

I did find out that you can rename them from the information page (right click again after petting). You just click the name at the top and you can backspace it and type in a new one. Unfortunately, the info page doesn't list the gender of the animal, so you have to remember which ones were male and female from what Marnie said when you purchased them.

I think the only thing that gender affects is what Marnie says that one time and duck color, as pregnancy is random. Therefore, you can just close your eyes when Marnie says she is sending it to their new home and not worry about gender.

After purchase I think the game always refers to them as female, when you do things like let them out of their building, shut the door and sleep before 5pm the following day it'll refer to every animal as female.

Chickens are female, roosters are male.
Cows are female, bulls are male.
In the game, female ducks have green heads (I don't know if there are male ducks in the game, I haven't gotten very far with livestock).
I think the goats are also female, but maybe male goats can produce milk too (I obviously know nothing about goats).
I don't think gender matters much for the other animals (though I think sheep are female). Maybe try using gender-neutral names for the other animals.

So far, all the animals I have except rabbits have been female. I have two of everything offered. The only one I'm not sure of is the dinosaur, but since it lays eggs, I think it's female also.

Are you talking about in the game or in real life? Because IRL "chicken" is not gender specific. A female chicken is called a hen.

The goats are female, male goats cannot produce milk.

You can rename any livestock at any point -- after interacting with them for the first time that day (when you get the heart icon to show you've increased the relationship points), interact again to bring up their "inspection" UI. Then simply click in the name area, type in a new name, and hit "ok"; and the name is changed.

This only works on animals you buy/breed; not on the dog/cat or horse. You're also not able to re-name your children; although the game will tell you their gender at birth so you don't need to worry in that regard.
