Counting days
I'm a little confused how to count the days that crops take to grow. I see on the official wiki, for example, that if you buy strawberry seeds during the Egg Festival on the 13th of Spring (and plant them that night), that you'll have enough time to harvest them, and re-harvest them twice more. I don't understand how the math is supposed to work out on that if a) they take 8 days to harvest the first time, b) they take 4 days each harvest after that, and c) all seasons are 28 days long. So they are ready for harvest again on the 29th (actually the 1st of Summer); they wouldn't wilt?

As another example and along the exact same lines, how would it work if I planted Cauliflower, for example, on the 16th of Spring? If they take 12 days to become harvest-able, does that mean I'll be able to harvest them on the last day of Spring?

What if I planted them on the 17th? Would they be harvest-able on the 1st day of the next season (as the wiki indicates is the case for strawberries)?

Even if there is...that's completely irrelevant and didn't answer either of my questions. I'm new to the game and trying to understand the mechanics of it.

So the wiki must be incorrect about Strawberries being able to be harvested a total of 3 times if the seeds are bought and planted on the 13th of Spring?

However, that does mean that planting Cauliflower seeds on the 16th will yield a harvest on the very last day of Spring, right? So I should be safe in that regard?

You can harvest spring crops in spring but as soon as the day 1 of sumer is here spring crops wilt. For strawberrys its buy at the festivle and keep them till day one of the next spring to plant them you get more srawberrys for your money then.
and yes your cauliflower is safe on the last day of spring any longer and summer comes and they will wilt. all season crops will wilt on the 1st of the next season

the day you plant a crop is not included in the time to hatvest. The harvest time actually starts the day after they are planted. So if u plant cauliflower on Spring 16, you need to count days to harvest from the 17th, & they would not mature by the 28th. And only corn & wheat will carry over to the next harvest cycle. So strawberries planted on the 13th would be ready 8 days from the 14th, or on day 22, then again on the 26th, but do not carry into summer

The simplest way to think about it is that crops need to be in the ground (and watered) all day in order to advance their growth the next morning. So the day you plant them doesn't count; the next day they spend all day sprouting and on the second morning after you planted them they've advanced one day.

So it's easier to think "these will sprout tomorrow and be ready X days later" than "they'll be ready in Y days from today".

For example: parsnips/garlic planted on the first of Spring will "sprout" on the second of Spring, grow through the third, fourth and fifth of Spring, and be ready to harvest on the morning of the sixth.

As a general rule, only 4-day crops are safe to plant at the start of the last week of the season -- even if you're using speed-gro fertilisers, the chance of a missed watering is higher than you'd think (there's a surprising amount to do at the end of each season; especially with festivals and getting ready for the next crops). Past day 22, the time for planting is over -- use your energy to clear land for next season's crops, or do some mining/fishing.

There's no point clearing land - the season change over will un-till 95% of your tilled tiles. Unless you buy a bunch of cheap seeds and sow them, knowing that they will die at the turn of season, and using them only to hold the plots open (which is what I do in year 2+; trying to dig out all my plots in time to plant on day 1 of each season is dire).

The simplest way to think about it, at least for me, is simple addition. If it's day 15 and cauliflowers take 13 days to grow, they'll be ready by (15+13=28) day 28 to harvest.

If there was a crop that took one day to grow, and you'd plant it on day 1, it would be ready in one day. (i.e. ready the NEXT day, day 2). If it takes two days, it would be ready on day 3, etc etc. It makes perfect sense. Anything else would be weird.

The simplest for me is just add a day to the grow time the seed says. If it says 4 days, it will be ready to harvest on the 5th day. If it says 6 days, it will take 7. So just add a day to the grow time the seed says.
