Do I need more than 1 heater?
I noticed my animals produce less products in the winter. And they never get happy, just fine. So I was wondering if I need more than 1 heater per housing to satisfy them?

Nope. They produce better stuff when they are allowed to eat outside, which you can't do in winter (and make sure you keep the doors closed!)

This is a rumour. I never let my animals outside cause they annoy me and sometimes I have to wait a week for "normal" Milk and not the big one. Its TOTALLY random if they are happy or not. I've tested it long enough :'D

It's not really a rumour, even if you never let them out it's pretty easy to increase their hearts at a good rate. And from then it is just (slightly favorable) RNG as to whether or not the produce large eggs/milk

You increase their hearts by feeding them properly and stroking. I spent so much time ingame, there is really NO difference if you let them out or not. But, of course, pigs wont find truffel inside :D

Don't forget to feed them too! They won't die if you don't feed them, but they'll lose happiness and won't produce any product if they're not fed well.

there is, there is no rumor. Unless you have your animals feel 'really happy' once you check their hearts by not letting them out. Prove me wrong.
I was stuck on 3.5 hearts petting them every day, when I started to let them out I got them to 5 without even petting them.
Or maybe you just don't have any grass outside? Animals prefer fresh grass instead of hay.

I'm still unsure about how to make animals happy at all. They seem "fine" most of the time, despite the fact that I pet them every day, feed them on grass outside, and close the door each night.

If anyone does the test with multiple heaters in winter, please let us know what you found out.

The thing with fresh grass is it costs 100 per starter and then takes a decent amount of days to grow. I let my animals out everyday so there's that, it won't grow and when it does it will be gone within seconds if I let them out. Kind of a waste.

Agreed. Grass grows way too slow. I've suggested (and seen it suggested by others) another alternative: Grass that gets eaten should regrow a few days later, and would only be permanently removed if the player hoes it up. But I'm pretty sure that isn't going to happen. :(

I have 140h ingame, I know they need grass when they're out :D. As I said I checked it with 2 savegames. One with letting out every day, one the opposite. No difference at all.

I'd prefer to have 25 fiber = 1 grass starter

Dunno about that. Fiber is way too rare. But a way to get Grass Starter would still be good.

Just some update: So I tried putting 2 heaters in the barn, after a few days I noticed their status behaved like when they were allowed to go outside. The 'looks really happy today!' mood came up much often, compared to having 1 heater. I checked this in a matter of about 20 days.

However, I did not do the same with the coop, so only 1 heater for the coop. There wasn't much difference, and they were getting the happy mood. So I'm not entirely sure if it's just the barn animals or what. Perhaps it has something to do with the area? The barn is significantly larger than the coop after all. I'm not really sure.

Conclusion; I don't think it really matters if they have 1 heater or 2. But I'll keep the 2 heaters anyways. :D

Thanks for the research. This encouraged me to try the same thing. Winter is coming!
