It's actually not too uncommon that the Gipsy Salesman near the wizard tower sells one, if you are tired of fishing.

Sounds like you're doing everything right. At this point it's just a numbers game.

Like Dizzy Wizard said, as I recall, I bought my first puffer (and sandfish) from the traveling salesman, but I have caught a couple others since.

You should use the best rod available to you, really, which is the iridium rod if you have fishing level 6. For your lure, I would say to use the trap bobber in any situation. During the time of day when puffers can be caught they're one of the only particularly lively fish, so if the fish is putting up a fight chances are good it's a puffer, so keep an eye out for that.

I got mine from the vendor in the forest, she comes every friday and sunday.

Note that it's only available on sunny days. And as Dee Twenty said, if you're missing some fish because they're moving way too quickly for you, those are the Pufferfish. They can be tricky for experts sometimes too. Of course, they are easy compared to Octopus.

Thanks guys. I have the iridium rod so will keep trying or try the vendor like you suggested. Got same issue with sturgeons as well but will just have to keep trying.

That's the stupid thing I have caught and octopus before. Heard they were one of the hardest to catch

They are the hardest "normal" fish to catch. There are a few tougher fish that aren't exactly normal, but they're harder to find.

It's possible to get really luck with a fish's movements, in which case instead of jumping around like crazy they do something stupid like stick to the top of the water or something. It's very very rare though. Normally Octopus should be very difficult to catch without +Fishing bonuses and a Trap Bobber.

So when you're fishing for these Pufferfish, are you missing any fish?

Yeah. A couple normally jumping all over the place. I'm guessing after reading comments above these are the puffers

Puffers!

If you got the Iridium rod, use the Trap tackle. Makes it when your not on target, it gets away slower.

you can buy it through the seller man with cart left side of marnie house down go there every friday and sunday. and then sometimes you can catch it summer time but only in sunny day.

I just realized something: Is it possible that what you caught was a Squid? They're tough, but nowhere near as tough as Octopus...
