There is a 4% chance of getting one from Iridium nodes in both Skull Cavern and the Volcano on Ginger Island. Even higher chance (25%) from Mystic Stones which also appears in Skull Cavern, Quarry and the regular Mines. They are not super common though so chances are still better with Iridium nodes since they become very frequent after a certain point in Skull Cavern. I usually get many shards from Skull Cavern alone
Same here.
My advice, on your next high luck day, take a lucky lunch if you can make or have one, go to the skull cavern straight away with at least 50 staircases and as many bombs as you can craft, the more the better. Enter the cavern and make your way as deep as you have stair cases. Eat your lucky lunch and start plowing thru levels using bombs to clear the rocks. I find clearing a lot of rocks all at once with bombs tends to yield more 'loot' than beating them all one by one with the pickaxe, and it saves on energy. The deeper in the mine you go, the higher the chances you will get a shard or two.
This is exactly what I do when I haven't found a shard and it's overdue to get one. I think maybe once, I got one in a fishing treasure from the mountain lake, and one time I got one from an artifact spot in the desert, right next to the spot where you use it to get the thing you get when you do that. I usually come up with two or three when I head down like that. Pretty rare not get at least one, as long as your deep enough and luck is on your side.
I actually managed to get about 2-3 prismatic shards just by letting slimes outside multiply over a long period of time and then killing them once their numbers get high, while leaving some alive to repeat the cycle.
When did anyone ask for it to be easy or claim they shouldn't be rare at all? I simply think they are TOO rare--virtually everything else can be gotten bu just playing the game or, at most, a little bit of extra effort into your daily routine, but unless you get really lucky, getting your first prismatic shard is often this huge chore. And not a "chore" like building up the farm or collecting resources, but just constantly rolling the dice, over and over, like trying to grind for a legendary weapon in an MMO. It's just rather out of sync with basically the entire rest of the game. Doesn't make the game bad, I just think it's one bad element.
I oddly tend to find mine just by minding the cave and the land you unlock next to the cave. You just have to put some time into the game. Most people are not really happy do so.. If this game was new and people did this it likely would get changed and made simple to get.. yet with over 1k and years old game it might be to late for a change like that it would upset more then help. It be going to a mine in real life and expecting to find "rare" gems. I get it can get tiring that is why there is more to do in this game then mine and fight. Just do all this little at a time. Or just go hard at mining sooner or later you'll get all you need. There are also other things along the way to help you find them. https://www.thegamer.com/stardew-valley-how-to-find-prismatic-shards/ that can help. Ether way i don't care to change the game as it is as a whole. People make mods for that reason go look at nexus :) Have a lovely night.
Being more dishonest about what I called out as dishonest doesn't make you honest. You claim people wanted the get the shards "easily", that they shouldn't be "rare". No one here asked for that. Now that you've been called out for falsely claiming we have, you now dishonestly claim I was saying "no one anywhere has ever complained about anything that resulted in games being changed." I never said that either. Why is it hard for you to have an honest, on-topic conversation instead of straw-manning people like myself and making fun of us for saying things we never actually said?
As an example of what I mean, referring to my slime farming post from earlier, slimes have a very small chance of dropping prismatic shards once you kill them regardless of colour. Knowing this, I can raise my own slimes anywhere in Stardew Valley and allow their numbers to grow for a while. Eventually, I can kill the slimes later to get their drops, including the small chance of finding a prismatic shard as it's not just for slimes found naturally, but also slimes raised yourself.
The chances are the same as normal, but the likeliness of finding one are increased drastically as a result of this, if that makes sense.
I'm sure there are plenty of other ways players can find prismatic shards a little bit easier.
