Quality fertilizer crafting or buying?
I have both fishing professions that increase the sell price of fishes. I roughly estimate that it's better for me to sell the fish and buy a fertilizer than to craft it myself.

What do you think?

Don't fall into Joja's corporate marketing trap! Fertilizers are wrong and unethical to the fish, they were personally responsible for the death of your grandfather! Do it the old fashioned way... no fertilizer, just good ol' fashioned dirt + water + time!

Think about the fish!

In all seriousness, I find buying all my fertilizer saves a ton of time in comparison to crafting it. Based solely on time value, I would buy the fertilizer.

I have never bought fertilizer myself. If I can't make it then I do with out. I usually just use the lower quality fertilizer. But if I have a lot of the low value fish, (chum, carp, sardine, anchovy, stuff like that) then I will use them for the good stuff.

All my fish go towards sashimi, because fish don't sell for THAT much to begin with and it gives 75(?) energy. I never even used fertilizer my first playthrough. Now I'm on my third playthrough and I still forget to use it. But when I do remember, I use the cheapest one, the one that uses 2 sap to make.

Fertilizer seems way too expensive to be worth it if bought. I'll only ever craft it. Also, the difference between normal and quality fertilizer doesn't seem great enough that the effort to catch fish would be worth it. Sure, you have a higher chance for better quality crops, but later in the game you'll want to produce increasing amounts of artisan goods and if you throw something into a keg its star grade is ignored. Therefore I conclude that using sap to create basic fertilizer is the way to go. If you're out of sap, going without fertilizer is probably fine.

Catfish sells for 300 base for gold star, which is fairly common with max fishing. I actually make a lot of money from fishing. If I spend all day fishing I can make around 4-5k so it's decent for doing such a simple thing.
I wish you could choose which fish gets used when crafting though. I wasted a catfish for a recipe I just wanted to do for a quest.

Just do the low quality fert - sap is a dime a dozen.

I make everything into Artisan Goods anyways, so I just don't use Fertilizer at all.
