Friendship Decay

I read it stops once a villager reaches the "Max Number of Hearts". Does that rule apply to Animals as well (Eg: Cat/Dog), and with Villagers with 8 hearts at max?

Singles' hearts won't decay at 8 and 10 hearts.
Villagers' hearts won't decay at 10 hearts.
Animals don't count, they're not villagers.

I never seen villagers lose any hears by not gifting or talking with them. And i do ignore many now that i have most at 10 hearts.

I can tell you that you lose hearts with animals. You must click on them often, otherwise their hearts will drop after a few days (even at max hearts and always feeding them). You can ignore cows at full heart since you can just milk them almost every day and it also keeps the hearts up. Just be careful with coop animals, the pig, and eventualy click on the sheep a few times since you can't cut wool every day

Or does the message appearing already trigger the Grandpa's Test point (or whatever it's called)?

Keeping your pet at 4 hearts for the evaluation is not neccessary, but it is a requirement.
A pet's hearts doesn't show, just make sure it says ''_ Loves you'' then I assume it will count for the evaluation.

A pet's hearts doesn't show, just make sure it says ''_ Loves you'' then I assume it will count for the evaluation.

...Even if it ends up decaying? I'd hate to get a "11" score because of that...

Even if the pet heart decays (because we cant see if it does) you can still get another point from other stuff.
Getting 1,000,000 total earnings will help you alot, like 7 points or so.

At fall plant lots of cranberries they are awesome for money. And in winter you can use the hoe trick to get lots of snow yam and winter roots at beach.

save money in the last days of summer so you can buy the seeds in 1st day of fall. The early you plant the more you will get since it takes a while to grow, but keeps producing fruits without the need to buy more seeds.

Also the hoe trick in winter may give you more than 10,000 day. Dig the lower parts of the beach horizontally/sideways/<- ->, when you dig and get a winter root or snow yam just start digging up from the tile you got the item... every tile to the north of it will give you another item. I dont know if it is a bug or feature but, is up to you if you want to use this trick or not. I had like 700,000 total earnings and i got the 1,000,000 at the end of winter without trouble. ;p

I'm not quite done with Year 2 and just got the Millionaire achievement. Just play naturally and work towards Community Center bundles and I'm sure you'll get there.
